My LO has started to get into a patern of takin his feeds (4oz) every 3.5 - 4 hours, day and night. The only issue seems to be the feed from 4am to the 8am feed. He takes a bottle at 4am, drinks it all then wakes at 6.30am looking for another one (drinks 2oz), then sleeps for another hour, we get up top and tail then he wants another bottle at 8am. Should I give him an extra oz in the 4 am feed??? I don't really want to as clearly this is the feed I want to cut out in the future.

What do you reckon???? :flow:

Hi hun, can u not just put him up to 5oz on all his feeds in the day and maybe after a few days of taking this u may be able to cut out the 4am fees altogether?
If he takes 5oz through the day then he may not need to feed at 4am at all.
I'm giving EVA 5oz in day and at her 10pm feed I give her 6oz as I want to cut out the 2am feed and so far it's worked and she has been going 7 or 8 hrs compared to the usual 4hrs.

Personally I'd add the extra ounce. We did this with Molly when she had her one night feed at 3:30am for a few weeks, she now no longer needs it as she now wants 6oz before going to bed so sleeps 10-6:30. We haven't tried to cut any feeds out but she's done it herself and now has 5 feeds a day as opposed to 6 now.

Id love to be able to up the amount I give Jake but he's a puker and Im scared to give him too much milk because he just pukes it all back up again! he wants a feed every 3 hours day and night-Im knackered!! He takes 3-4oz at those feeds but has just had a 4oz bottle and cried for more and has just had another 2oz...they are sooooooo confusing!

We've been through this too, I feel your pain! We keep a 'top up' bottle in the fridge whereby if Molly needs an extra ounce, I just decant an ounce from the container in to the bottle she was using before and carry on with the feed as if she was having 7oz as opposed to 6oz.

yeah lol fotunatly I do have bottles made up in advance so I just give him another one! Im sure he will even out soon but at the moment I kinda want to feed him on demand as he still isnt up to his birth weight..

Thanks, I'm gonna try this today. He had 4oz at 9, then another 4 at 11, greedy piggy!!! lol

He will do hun, give it a couple of more weeks and I bet he has more of a set routine going on  As you say, at least you have them ready in advance..I couldn't cope with this "make it up as you go along" thing personally! And he'll get there, just carry on with what you're doing, we do on demand too.

My LO done this today we were a bit confused as being 12 days late is she new born or classed as 2wks?? Technically she's 1wk tomorrow and only came off the breast 3 days ago.

Midwife said today basically feed on demand still, which we have done, we were giving 3oz and to start with that was fine but yesterday and today she's been asking for more almost 2hrs later so we've topped up to 4oz and just letting her take what she needs that way if theres an ounce left and she cries for more we just let her finish that bottle, it seems to work. she got weighed today and is less than 1lb under her birth weighht so we're doing something right!! xx
