Well tomorrow we are going to get my lo registered and are having a nice stroll down there and then having a wander round town if i feel up to it. Its the 1st time we will have taken him out as i was in hospital for 2 weeks after the birth. What im wondering is, whats the best way for doing his bottles while were out?7

Im thinking either take a couple of sterile bottles with me, and a ready made milk carton. When he wants feeding, split the carton between the two bottles, use one straight away and then one when he next wants feeding. I know they say to throw away a feed not used within 2 hours, but it seems such a waste to throw away half a carton of milk. I would just give it to him at changing bag temp.

OR

Should I just take a bottle already made up with me straight out the fridge, and give it at changing bag temp when he wants it?

Im getting myself in a bit of a tizz and worrying incase i get caught out while were away from the house. What does everyone else do? x

I usually take an empty sterlised bottle and a pre-made carton when we go out,or if you have a bottle bag just pop in there but remember if its cold then you would need to heat to your LOs temp or just take cool boiled water then add formula if needed.I just do the first way as I find it easier!x

Thanks for your reply :) what do you do with the left over milk in the carton? Do you throw it away or do you think i could put it into another bottle for his next feed if were gunna be out for that long? Or would you take 1 carton per feed hes gunna need iykwim? When i was in hospital, my lo was taking the cartons at room temp so im assuming i could just give them to him straight away without heating or anything.

Ive got an indsulated bottle bit in my changing bag, so i guess i could just take a bottle out the fridge and keep it in there, then ask somewhere to heat it up for me when he wants it. That kinda worries me though as hes a very hungry baby and wakes up screaming for food when hes hungry so i dunno if i'd want to run the risk of finding somewhere to heat up a bottle for me! x

I dont use cartons, I use the powdered stuff, even when going out and about. I use the powder dispensers (Mothercare and Tesco sell them) and with the correct amount of powder in them, and take out bottles with the right amount of cooled boiled water in. Evie likes her bottles slightly warm so I heat up the bottles using hot water from a thermos. Works well for us and she has her bottles exactly how she likes them ;)

When Imi was little I used the cartons and threw out what she didn't have (she was always a gannet so this was never loads!) but now I take a pre made bottle which I keep with an ice block in the insulated part of my changing bag. I also take a bottle warming flask with me so I can then heat to room temp without needing to find hot water :) I never add powder to room temp water as it won't kill any bacteria that may be in the milk x

This is like my flask - its fits Tommee Tippee bottles in perfectly :)

Thanks for your advice everyone :) I went out today and bought a milk powder container, and the tommee tippee travel warmer flask thing so i will just take that out with some boiling water in it and then can make up the feeds as i need them  just need to test out the flask to see how long it keeps water hot for so i can judge how hot i need to put it in there!

I have the Tommee Tippee flask and I believe it keeps water warm for around 6 hours.... not sure how accurate this is tho so it's probably worth timing it ;)
