Advice on laparoscopy, please!

Yikes, SLH, if you go through that every month having a lap will be a doddle!

Do you think so? Is having a lap like having AF? What about the stitches? I thought it would be way worse than having AF.

I agree with Petipas! If you have super painful periods like that, I think you will find the lap not too bad. And honestly, my AF after the lap almost made me laugh...no pain at all! The first one after surgery, I had no idea it was coming no back pain or cramps...just there! I saw how normal people lived. And like Petipas said, make sure you have your pain meds and some movies to watch..think of it as a week to be lazy, just lay on the couch.

SLH, from what you describe you will easily cope! The only really painful thing you might experience is shoulder pain for the first 24hours. I only had it once (out of the three laps) and just drank loads and loads of peppermint tea.

I agree with missmarls that you should just see the time after the op as a week to be lazy and hang out on the sofa.

In answer to your question comparing it to af, my answer is probably very different to yours as I have relatively light periods!
The way I felt was as if I'd really seriously overdone it on a workout. As long as I was lounging comfortably I was ok but I struggled getting up from the floor or out of the bath. I was also more tired and weak feeling than normal but staying at home that's not a problem.

I wouldn't worry about the stitches. I think that most of the time they use dissolving stitches and on my last lap they just glued my belly button incision back together :dohh: In any case, the holes are small so there isn't much to stitch up.

I feel a lot better now. Thank you. I won't find out until the end of November when I will need the surgery. I have to have a bunch of other tests first during my next cycle. I am going to stay away from google now and stop scaring myself lol.

Re stitches, i was told i had dissolvable (in 2 out of 3 wound sites) and if they weren't dissolved by a week to go to gp and have them taken out. Well after 8 days they were not dissolved AT ALL so i ummmm, took them out myself. Well it was a Saturday and i was fed up of them being there. (They were def not dissolvable so don't know why i was told they were). I also found one in the remaining wound site on the Sunday so took that out myself.
I am not recommending doing that but just pointing out stitches aren't that bad, especially if i didn't realise i had an extra one and was able to remove them myself.

Like the others have said if your AF is that bad surely having the lap to find out why is probably your best option. Don't worry about it, everyone is different and our experiences could be way different to yours. I'm sure things will go fine. :hugs:

wow petitpas, thank you so much for all that info. i will be going for a lap either the end of Dec or early Jan. I see that you're preggers, how long did it take you to get preggers after your lap?

Jlisa, I am not the best example as this is my 6th pregnancy since my last lap in Sep 2009.
If it helps, my losses are not thought to be down to endometriosis at all. They are being blamed on clotting problems and immune issues (natural killer cells) for which I am being treated now.
All the best with your lap and good luck afterwards! :hugs:

I have a lap on 13th December I am so scared! But just read through the whole thread and glad I know a bit more of what to expect x

My lap is scheduled for Nov. 30 (yikes!!!!) and I'll try to remember to update this thread after it's done. Of course, if I get my BFP next week, I won't have to have the lap....praying that's the case :)

Your pregnant! Wow, congratulations x

Fingers crossed, Lizzy fxfxfxfx

Thanks, cooch. Hoping for sixth time lucky!

I am hoping that my doc suggests a lap because I really feel that it is my endo keeping me from having my little miracle! I hope this helps!

Hello Ladies, I have recently found out that I have to have a Laparoscopy and Hysteroscopy In December as my HSG showed that my fallopian tubes might not be normal, I am worried, but I am feeling much better after reading this thread. Good Luck to you ladies who are having their op's soon x
