Hi, I recently bought a Syrian hamster, and the past few days I have noticed that he/she keeps biting the bars of his/her cage. Is it normal? Will it harm itself? and if so how do you get them to stop?

how old is the hamster?
this is signs of:
a) bordom - give hammie some fresh veg - cucumber or carrot & apple to chew on (only give this once a week) or a few toys, wooden blocks, salt licks, cuttle fish thats been washed, a toilet roll tube is always good fun,
or
b) hammies teeth need trimming - if he/she is still young they shouldnt need doing, if appropriate things are provided for him to chew on they should never need doing..
c) he simply just wants to come out and play/adventure in his new surroundings. you can buy the hamster balls to sllow him to run around in but limit this to no more than 15 mins a day. xx

also if its becoming a nightmare in the fact of keeping you awake you can try rubbing a little lemon juice on the bars using kitchen towel or a cotton wall ball. xx

Thanks!
she is about 13 weeks old now.
I will look into getting a hamster ball and try see if that helps.
