Sorry if this is long... But i need some advice, but i am sooooo stressed!

Bit of backround, LO is 6,weeks today, bottle fed from 4 days old on Aptamil.

About 2/3 weeks we thought he may have a bit of colic so we started him on Infacol on the advice of our HV, but it seems to make him poo less. He only poos now every 3rd day, and on that day, before the poo he is extremely cranky, unsettled and just generally unhappy. The hv told us to use colief but i didnt as the fact it hajs to be made in advance doesnt work for us as he feeds on demand and can be quite irregular.

At the weekend i started him on Aptamil comfort, i havent really noticed a change in him yet, y'day was day 3 and he had a huge poo, his poo is still very soft. I have been for his 6 week check today and the gp has given me a lactulose medicine to try and make him more regular.

I feel really stressed about whether i am doing the right thing, i dont like the Comfort milk, it seems too thick and the water has to be boiling to mix properly, ive had to buy new teats and im not sure they are any better! Because they dont do ready made, i dont know how i will manage it when i go out!

I just wanted to ask someone who has used it, did you find it helped your lo once you switched?

What bottles and teat sizes do you use?

How do you manage night feeds? Ive been taking a flask to bed and mixing half and half with cooled boiled water.

What do you do when you go out? The couple of times a week i go out, i wonder if it would do any harm to use normal Aptamil?

If you dont like using the comfort milk then maybe switch back to Aptamil first milk and use it in conjunction with infacol and the lactulose. This should do the same job, with the added convenience you can use cartons when needed. xxx

We are using cow and gate comfort to try and settle our little one as we think she may have colic or silent reflux. I believe this formula is nr enough exactly the same as aptamil - made by exactly the same company - I imagine roughly the same thickness.

We use doctor brown bottles to try and help with wind in conjunction with the comfort milk. I can't quite work out if these bottles help her but they are a massive pain for washing and shaking. With these bottles we use size 3 teats which seems crazy for a 7 week old but she seems ok with the flow and has been on them for about 3/4 weeks now.

When we make the bottles up - we do a batch and store in the fridge. So we add the formula to boiled water, rapid cool and then store in the fridge for a max of 24 hrs. When u store comfort milk in the fridge it seperates but as soon as u give it a shake it mixes back up fine. We then warm up in a bottle warmer.

When we go out we have to take a container with the formula, a sterilised bottle and a flask of hot water. We then have to rely upon a restaurant etc for a jug of cold water to rapid cool.

This does all sound a faf and it does take a bit of getting used to but it's not too bad.

I do also keep a carton in the bag of normal 1st milk as I can't see it doing any harm as a one off - as long as she takes it.

This milk has made our little girl have runny poos which again can be bad when out as they really smell bad!! Apparently this is normal. But she is very regular, once a day.

Not sure if that will help you as I know it's different milk but I've heard that they r near enough the same.

Thank you that does help! I think ill take a flask out too, and keep a carton of normal just incase, i cant see it doing harm as a one off in emergency! My hv did tell me that adding colief to milk gives the same effect as comfort milk so that may also be an option in an emergency as i have a bottle!

My son had colic and we tried infacol and colief but they didn't work, so at 5 weeks we switched to aptamil comfort. It wasn't an overnight transformation but he slowly but surely improved over about 2 weeks. The comfort milk made his poos runnier and a pale green colour, and they smelt so bad, but the HV said that's perfectly normal. When I was out I used to take a flask of boiling water and make up a fresh feed, but he was fine on the odd occasion I had to give him a carton of regular aptamil. At night I would have bottles pre made in the fridge, it was just a case of coming down to heat it up. Now he's 6 months he's been back on the first milk for a while and he is 100% fine on it.

When did you switch your LO back to normal milk?
