Hi Girlies :):)

I havent had any "bad cheeses" since i found out i was preggas so i thought i would treat myself and buy a really nice Camembert and obviously heat it up thoroughly before eating some....HOWEVER i cooked it in the microwave until it was bubbling so it was extra hot but ive read that you have to cook it in the oven to make sure the listeria is killed? I dont know how true this is but i feel bad now as i ad quite a bit!!! :(

How would we know if we had listerosis from the cheese anyway?!?! Can a scan show anything up?!?! Sounds stupid doesnt it that im worrying over a bit of cheese but its because i had quite a bit of it that im so bothered!!

Cheers :)

I'm 99.999999999999% certain you'll be perfectly fine!

Try not to worry (easier said than done) xx

I would have thought that as long as it was cooked, regardless of how it was cooked it would kill the listeria? Could be completely wrong though!

I'd like to admit eating some brie & stilton uncooked. Got a cheese board when I went out for a meal. After I ate them, I remembered I wasnt supposed to! :dohh: They did taste extra nice as well!

God, I'm going to have get some camembert now!

oh fab :) coolio i dont feel bad at al now its just they go on so much about silly little things you cant have and then when u have them u end up feeling guilty!!! ~May have some more then just make sure its in the oven for a while :) xx

Enjoy the things you like! Ummm Cheese!

I've eaten Brie, Camembert, Stilton, Pate, Mussels, soft boiled eggs, etc...all in pregnancy as I love them.

So I'm not limiting my food intake of these things. It isn't as though I only eat all these things. The chances of me getting Listeria, Salmonella, or eating enough pate for high doses of Vit A to have a detrimental effect (after all too little Vit will also cause birth defects), are tiny tiny.

l appreciate for some ANY risk is too big. But you are more likely to get campylobacter from handling raw chicken, than any of these things happen to you - but I don't see any advice about limiting the handling of chicken given to pregnant ladies#?!

I find it a bit over the top that ladies are microwaving sliced cold meats? heating unless over 70oC, is only going to increase the bacteria in your food.

It is about good food intake, and more importantly good food hygiene.

XxX

my doctor has said if you do eat any of the 'not allowed' foods, you don't need to worry unless you actually feel sick.So unless you get a sick tummy

I agree, I've been alot relaxed in this pregnancy than my last. I haven't stopped eating runny eggs, mainly because a fried egg sarnie isn't the same otherwise! I've managed to get to 26 without ever getting salmonella or listeria, I've never known ANYONE to get it either (Obviously I'm aware that people will get it, but I think the numbers are rather low).

I've never heated cold meats, I didn't know we were suppose to tbh?

All these food rules I have basically ignored because if you just avoid the things that would normally make you ill you should be fine. I think the last listeria outbreak in the UK was a few weeks ago (very small risk) and was in a soft drink if I remember rightly...

Quite - I'm in my second pregnancy too, and it is more important to be relaxed!

Your are not "supposed to" heat up deli foods, but some people are far too over concerned and take it upon themselves to do this.. odd, when they could be doing themselves little favours by doing it.
Xx

A lot of the time a microwave can make things hotter than an oven anyway! I honestly wouldn't worry hun, think of the amount of times you have eaten camembert in the past, have you ever been ill?

I have been eating camembert and brie in my pregnancy as long as it's pasterurised, and had some broccoli and stilton soup the other day too... Must remember that along with a bottle of champagne to put in the fridge near my due date I want some stilton and crackers too!

I think as long as it is heated to over 70 degrees then however you heat it should be OK, as it kills the listeria. It's only if you eat unpasturised cheese without heating it through that there is a risk. The risk is small anyway, but 20 times higher if you're pregnant than for the general population, so worth heating your cheese ladies! Since you did I think you have absolutley nothing to worry about, the microwave will get things piping hot in the middle.

dont worry! any of the bad cheeses cooked are fine! i had baked camembert last night in bread crumbs it was amazing!!!!!!!!

Ooooohhh I REALLY want stilton and crackers now!!
And baked camembert!
....I don't think my one piece of marmite toast did it for me this morning!

oh fabbbb thanks sooo much for the replies!!! When speaking to the midwife and other docs theyve basically made out that soft cheese in pregnancy causes these things to happen and that because your pregnant theres a much higher risk of getting things which is obv a load of rubbish! im going to start enjoying the things ive been missing out on wooo :) xx

i am a total worrier!!
i have cut out caffeine totally since being preg, and have a list on my phone of what cheeses i can and cant have! but i do over worry i will admit. but have my reasons!!

Ooooh you would think I am really naughty, as I don't check anything lol... Most of the time it's all pasterurised anyway, so I don't waste my time standing there reading everything like I used to.

I am still hankering after my stilton and crackers though ... maybe with some onion chutney on the side and a glass of ice cold Pinot Grigio followed by a huge bar of Cadbury Caramel
