the thing is though, they cant use not having a job as an excuse.

The Jewelers about 4 doors down from me got looted today in broad daylight....My neighbor said she saw people walking past the house with stuff they had taken

I think they're much more likely to be bought by home/shop owners wanting to protect their property than the people looting. That's why there has been such a dramatic rise in sales.

BBC has just said that many of those arrested have had good jobs and good prospects, so much for this 'lost generation' excuse.

I have not read it all but well said the ones I have! It's not a protest, they just found a pretext to loot a bit more and steal a bit more! The same happened in France 6 years ago, it started with a very similar event (2 youths died there "because" of the police, who did not happen to be chasing them, contrary to what they thought). Even if it was a protest, violence will never make them win anything apart from prison

There's no excuse. We're all struggling (apart from "Call me Dave" who can manage 2 holidays in 6 weeks but whatever) but we don't all go and cause mayhem like that.
