Allergies

Interesting about the goats milk. We were told to avoid it too but I had it as a baby with no issues.

I wouldn’t worry too much about Breast milk having cmp in. If you cut out dairy now it will start to work it’s way out and I have read bm repairs the gut anyway. I started to cut dairy out at 6 weeks, was probably 12 weeks by the time all dairy and soya was out of my diet (forgot to say he’s allergic to soya too) and I just carried on Breastfeeding. All the Drs we saw were supportive of continued Breastfeeding and we’re still going strong now at 1 year old. So it doesn’t have to be the end if you want to continue. Obviously personal choice whatever you feel comfortable doing but don’t let a dr back you into a corner!

I can't cut out dairy long term due to a history of osteoporosis in my family. My doctor would rather I stop breastfeeding (or at least try for one a day before I have too much dairy) and formula feed for that reason. Weighing up the pros and the cons, he'd rather I have dairy than take supplements anyhow. DS3 has yet to grow out of it but I've just made the call to leave him off cow dairy until he's old enough to make his own choice. There are plenty of alternatives out there and he's beginning to discover dairy-free chocolate and coconut milk products. He doesn't seem to like cow milk anyhow and I assume that is because he's so used to the creaminess and natural sweetness of the goat milk. He will not touch soy. I personally love soy milk but I find the formula stinks and doesn't mix very well. But we aren't vegetarians either so I'm not in favor of using soy anyhow. There is conflicting evidence that soy formula can leave boys sterile in adulthood which influenced our choice to not use soy. I don't want to be the one to risk taking the choice of them wanting a family away because of a choice I made for them as infants.

DD2 had another twister type ice cream on Saturday and wow today was not good three really bad nappies . Feel so bad for her because she really enjoyed them. She’s not usually interested in lollyices but DD1 has been having them recently. On the hunt for some good tasting ones for her now . She wasn’t keen on the Aldi coconut ice cream either .

I was told it takes 6 weeks for diary to leave your system by DDs dietician not sure how true that is as I felt he was useless

Yeah Wacky I’ve heard about soya milk being bad for boys when I was looking to into alternative milks for DD something to do with testosterone. I personally wouldn’t risk given to a boy . I’d worry too much ! Sorry to hear of your family history of osteoporosis and giving up breastfeeding. Your making the right choice in the long term xx

Babybump I did worry a lot about my second having allergies but other than having dry eczema like skin as a baby he is fine.

What symptoms does your DD get and when did you realise she has CMPA?

We might be trying for #3 too x

More or less when she was first born . She had terrible skin rashes , gagged on her milk, reflux , bad nappies and was generally unhappy when feeding , I was totally unaware of CMPA at this point and GP just kept saying reflux we tried reflux milk hungry baby milk wysoy milk was a nightmare. Was only when we started weaning her early on GPS advice and introduced cows milk she got really bad . Every nappy was awful . Eczema came out bad on her shoulders and she brought some of her food/milk back .

This time I started looking into things and it all seemed to fall into place and she had all those symptoms of CMPA all along . Went back to my Doctor seen another GP who used to be a pead in the hospital and he diagnosed CMPA straight away and a referral to dietician she was about 11 months at the time.

Pretty much dealt with it on my own from there as GP and dietician seemed to be useless and told me things I already knew . Facebook Group I joined had been invaluable!

Now at 2 years old she gets really awful nappies and the same patch of eczema comes up on her shoulder which really annoys her and she also gets hives .

When are you going to try for Baby no3 ! Xx

DS3 has had a fair bit of dairy this weekend - milk and cheese while I was in town. MIL had him, he wanted to go to bed so she gave him milk. Didn't pack a bottle because I didn't think he was going to need a sleep so early. Then he had a cheese toastie for lunch. Again, MIL was just doing them and didn't really think in general so for the last 2 days we've had 3 very smelly and runny bowel movements.

I'm going to keep going with at least one breast feed a day but I know not feeding regularly during the day is going to affect my quantity until I just dry up. Really upset but if it upsets DS4, then I have to. His bowel movements are a greeny color and it's like the baking soda and vinegar science experiment. And it gives him really bad gas. The one thing I wanted to do I feel like in some sense I'm failing at but I KNOW I have to do this. It's not fair for him just because I don't want to give up feeding.

Bummer your little one has ended up with a sore tummy. It's so hard. They enjoy it but it leaves them sore and miserable after.

Maybe I am missing details but your doctor seemed very quick to give up on BFing. Would giving up dairy in your diet for a couple of months not be an option? Then you could get to feed for a bit longer. Surely the long term effects for you would not be to severe long term? My three all reacted to cows milk through BM but they were able to tolerate me eating dairy by about 5 months. It's really good you have found an alternative that works anyway.

DS1 has moderate hayfever and seasonal allergies. Nothing major, but enough to take regular medication during his allergy seasons. He does not seem to suffer from eczema.

DD has moderate to severe hayfever/seasonal allergies, takes medication almost year round, probably allergic to molds present in the dirt as well as tree pollens/weeds. She also has mild eczema.

DS2 has no known issues. Let's hope he's the blessed 3rd child.

The blessed third child tangent:
an older sister, and a younger. My older sister and I had crooked teeth, needed years of braces. Both required glasses in high school. Our younger sister was born to parents of advanced age, she was premature due to pre-eclampsia, etc - Tallest of the 3 of us (we are all short), perfect vision, perfectly straight teeth.....the blessed third child.

When are you going to try for Baby no3 ! Xx

Almost everyday I have a change of heart :haha: not even 100% sure myself! Some days I think maybe in the next few months and other times I just don’t know as I’m so nervous!

What about you?

History of osteoporosis in my family (grandmother has it) so it's a chance he'd rather not take. And I can't give up dairy - I've had it my whole life that not having it won't feel right. I'm happy to switch to Goat formula anyhow. DS3 has thrived on it and I find with formula feeding it's easier to work a routine in as well as giving me more freedom. Everyone can feed baby too so it means everyone can bond. <3

Ah that makes sense if it works for you. I thought it was a shame if you felt like you had to give up when you were really sad about it. Doctors never seemed concerned about me giving up dairy short term despite osteoporosis in my family. I never found an alternative to BFing with mine so didn't have much choice either. I did start weaning on to solids earlier with each of mine as they did well on solids.

Oh dear !! way too much for his stomach to handle at the minute god love him . Hope he is better now !
It’s still a bit disappointing for you to have to stop breastfeeding but like you said it’s his health and happiness . I’m sure once you adjust you will be fine !

Yeah I felt really sly on her I walked over to our local ASDA for the lady to tell me they have stopped selling milk free lollyices then proceeded to hand me a box of mini milk and said are these any good I wanted to cry inside ! They only had Alpro ice cream in a tub which she can’t tolerate ! Off to Tesco next week to get some of theirs hopefully they will have some . I find them better for free from food than ASDA . Until then she picked some fruit lollyices.

I am going through this phase now it’s really frustrating me ! We did initially say July but now I’m thinking maybe next month! I’m unsure to be honest because you just don’t know how many cycles it may take to fall pregnant and I don’t want to leave it too long for this reason but then I get nervous and back track!

When does your OH want to try ?

Glad your DS2 doesn’t have any allergies ! Strange the way our bodies work and siblings can have different or no allergies at all.

DS4 is only 7 weeks old so a long way to go before we start solids. :haha: But DS3 has gotten really picky about his so we are focusing on a lot of bottles if need be. He's just not in the mood for food at the moment and hasn't really been for a few months. But you give him a fruit squeeze pouch, Starbucks soy hot choc or he sniffs out my junkfood stash and he's down for that!

Ice-cream is the exception to the rule though. We think freezing might alter the proteins which makes them digestible for him without side effects but just don't know. Still recovering at the moment so there's no Daycare today damn it. I wanted to get the kitchen and lounge sorted too. :nope:

Just a thought, why not get bananas and add berries, coconut cream etc and make your own dairy free treats for her? Use the coconut cream and banana as a base and be creative.

When does your OH want to try ?

He wants to try right away lol. What about yours??

Ideally I’d like a smaller age gap then with the boys who are 4 years 3 months apart. I know I want another for sure just not sure when?! I think I’d like to try June/July as like you said you really don’t know how long it can take! My first was 1-2 cycles but my second took 18 months! I’d hate for it to take as long as that again :|

Thanks Wacky that’s a good idea she lovely bananas so will try that out ! Oh no take this time to try and chill out a bit seeing as you can t get much cleaning / organising done!

DD2s actually come out in chicken pox today ! DD1 had them 2 weeks ago! So we will be staying in next few days.

He did want to try in the summer too . Wanted to try and avoid a winter baby as DD2 was ill in hospital when she was born, but he’s going back an forth now . Only thing we can agree on like yourselves , is the fact we want a third child lol .

DD1 it took us 6/7 cycles .DD2 was 1 cycle very lucky with her I think. Yeah I would hate to think we left it too long and it took ages . Hopefully we will both be lucky . There’s 2 years 10 months between my girls. Hopefully won’t be s much bigger gap between them and s new baby . DD1 is so excited when I ask her about a new baby . She wants a brother cause she already has a sister but if baby is a girl it’s ok cause she will still be a big big sister lol she melts my heart sometimes ! X

Babybump my eldest just had chicken pox last week for the first ever time ! It was going around both year 1 classes. I’m still waiting to see if my 2 year old gets it :| Hope your LO is better soon x

How did you find 2 year 10 month age gap especially in the early stages?

DD2 got it exactly 2 weeks after DD1 broke out in chicken pox .

Not gonna lie babyjan was hard at first adjusting to two plus she was sick which didn’t help us , especially DD1 in the beginning, she was reluctant to touch or go near her for the first week or so lol . After about 2 months it just settled down and everything fell into place. Think it was more about learning how to manage both their needs at the same time and bedtime routine was key plus DD1 started nursery when DD2 was 4 months old which helped massively lol.

They absolutely adore and fight and scream at each other lol. My major problem is I am over thinking everything which I tend to do anyway !

I’m finding myself looking at baby things already lol . DD2 goes to nursery in January so I’d love another potential last baby around the house. Xx

How is everyone and their allegeries ?

We had a mix up of breakfast cereal didn’t end well for DD2 but she’s fine now DD1 said her cereal was disgusting with KoKo milk haha ! C

Jackson had a bit of a flare up up the other night. Thankfully, his formula subsidy has been a approved so while I still breastfeed, I only feed if I've had minimal dairy which is usually first thing in the morning before my cuppa.
