We have a health nurse that visits us one day after we are home with baby, and they also ask that we see bubs dr within the first couple days home.

At the nurse visit, bubs weight was fine and they were happy. He eats 2 oz about 8x a day. They want him to eat 2 - 3 oz though. They called and asked how much he weighed at the drs appt and said that he's not gaining enough and we have to do something. The dr said his weight gain was fine.

The nurse made it seem scary that bubs isn't eating what he should, and that he should eat both more and more often than he is. But he eats when he's hungry and until he's full. It's all I can do. I'm afraid he's not gaining what he should now!

We're going back to the dr tomorrow to see what he says. Of course I'm so worried there's a reason he's not gaining or eating as much as he should. He east though, every 3 - 4 hours, and is full when he's done. His bowels work just fine.

Sorry if this is all jumbled, it just got me in a frenzy yesterday. I just wonder if we should switch formula for some reason? I don't konw.

If bubs seems satisfied and is feeding well, I don't see what the problem is!! Everyone has a different appetite, some like little and often and some like big meals. Babies are the same, surely?? I think we have enough to worry about without the nurses giving you undue stress!!

Did you tell your HV that your doctor said weight gain is fine? I think its wrong they are contradicting a doctors advice. There is nothing wrong with 2 ounces 8x a day for a 2 week old. The only possible thing you could do is try to feed him more by giving a 3 ounce bottle and seeing if he'll take more but I'm sure you've already tried that. If LO is content and full with 2 ounces, and the doctor is fine with his weight gain, who is this HV to tell you differently?

I give him a 4 ounce bottle and he only seems to take 2 ounces, so that's not it. The nurse sugessted that the doctors scale was not working right and that could be the problem. I guess that'd be 'ok' because she's saying that he weighs more than he does, but still a stupid bs answer to me.

So, today he's eaten even less than usual!!! Only eaten 5x, so only 10oz, should be much more than that for this time of day.
