I was in my own room too, canada here. Also I bloody hope not romney, he says gays go against human values!! Closed minded jerk. I have gay friends in the states. Horrible political views from that one. Whats the difference between our healthcare and what Obama is proposing? I'm assuming there is a difference because everyone calls it Obamacare. (I found it hilarious, some hick tried telling me Canada was copying Obamacare... Oi!!)

And scrapping Planned Parenthood? What positive is actually supposed to be gained from that?!

I really hope obama is re elected,im scared for the american public if its romney.
Ive lived in both CAnada and the UK and the healthcare is world class in both countries.

We hardly notice the tax that comes off of DH's wage. Saying that, we also live in a two bedroom council house and pay....$350/month? So housing is much better over here.

If you can get social housing it is, but most people cant get social housing any more. So the prices are stupid if you cant.

I live north of england and our rent is only 320 a month which isn't much. There is something about Romney I just don't like or trust.
And for one I am so greatful for the NHS, yes it has its faults but I feel so privileged to live in a country where I can go to the hospital and be seen and not worry about the cost.

We have socialised medicine. That's what people mean in the us.

That is purely what they mean when they say Obama will turn the US into a socialist country?!

I just honestly don't understand the appeal of Mitt Romney. The whole '47%' thing, saying in the debate that the government does not create jobs - does he even WANT to be president? I liked the description of him being the real life version of the rich asshole in a 1980's high school comedy :haha:

Our government's role was CLEARLY spelled out in the Constitution. Much of what we have today is unconstitutional. They was supposed to be MINIMAL taxation for only things necessary for the running of our country (infrastructure, defense, etc.). It is NOT supposed to paying people who don't want to work to stay home or paying for anyone's medical care! The whole 47% thing was completely taken out of context. I think he meant they don't matter in trying to convince them to vote for him in a campaign. Those of us that DO have to pay for the 47% really don't look too kindly at them anyway. If you are able to work (even if you have kids) get your butt off the couch and GET A JOB (and stop having kids you can't afford). It's one thing if you are truly unable to work, but I think everyone can agree that 47% of the population is NOT in that position. If you can't work you should not be living up to the standards of those that pay for you either. There is NO need for a cell phone. There is also no need for a private home (or even technically electricity). The things required to live are water, food (and steaks, shrimps, booze are NOT required), shelter, and clothing (though technically not really a biological need). Anything beyond that should not be provided. There is SO much abuse of the system (obviously if 47% of the population is getting money BACK from the government) it's sickening that we have to work so hard to pay for deadbeats that have as many as 10 kids (when they couldn't afford the first). Obama has had 4 years to fix things and they are still just as bad or worse than when he came in. Though I don't think Romney is a glowing example of what we need, at least he is different than the fool who already had 4 years and has only made a bigger mess for us.

But Mitt Romney pulled the 47% statistic out of his ass! I would never call a welfare system 'sickening', surely it is morally worse to let people live below the poverty line. Electricity absolutely IS a necessity these days, as it clothing - what the hell?! How are people meant to even achieve and maintain employment or education otherwise? I just don't get it at all, I mean obviously there are flaws in a benefit system but surely it is more damaging to leave people to live in a cycle of poverty and therefore have less people in education and in good health, contributing towards the economy?

Yeah seriously - and this isn't the 1950s, the internet is pretty much a necessity these days. What was a necessity in the 18th century is not going to be the same over 200 years later - of course the constitution isn't going to be totally applicable now!

And a phone is a neccesity now for jobs. How do you expect to get a call back? Maybe not a cell but some form of communication is needed if you want them to be able to find work.

I will add - how do you expect someone to fix in four years what took hundreds to mess up?

This is true and in the UK, a house phone costs a monthly amount to have, whereas if you have a pay as you go phone then there is no monthly fee so it actually works out better to have a cell. Plus on top of that usually with a monthly contract cell you have to pay for a set period, so you cant say well I lost my job so I shouldnt have a cell any more, cos you're going to have to pay regardless.

What about the reproductive rights of women and the rights of homosexual persons?

I think who you vote for relates to your circumstances, every country has its faults and there will never be a way to please everyone 100%, you just pick and choose the values that most relate to your circumstances.

This week I found out a few people who brag about how much the abuse the benefits system and bring home more a month than what we do even though we earn too much for benefits. Times like this I want someone to stand and and say, enough is enough, give the people who work their butts off a break. Lol.

Sometimes, I'm more chilled about these things and my political views would be completely different.

I sincerely hope for the benefit of the common people of the USA and for the rest of us, that Obama is voted back in and if not then can we swap our PM for your President ?. I'll gladly take Obama over David Cameron anyday of the week :D.

I just literally cannot understand how a woman would even consider voting for Mitt Romney, I would love to be enlightened as to what he will contribute towards women's rights and equality.

I think it is worth remembering that a socialist country/ Government is very different from a Communist one. Living in a socialist country does not mean that it is run like communist China or Russia.

That is true, but I do think that there are many problematic aspects of socialism in reality though.

No electricity here wOuld kill you. As would no winter clOthes.

Then how did people live there before electricity was invented? You do know electricity is a MODERN invention and people lived for thousands of years without it all over the world.
