American ladies.. who do you think will win the election?

I get that, but I think it'd be more interesting to see of Obama can actually come through on some more of his original promises in the next four years (i.e. close Guantanamo). Especially if the democrats can get a majority in the House and keep their majority in the Senate. That, to me, would be more interesting than Romney for four years.

He HAD that in the beginning of his term and did nothing, but ram the Obamacare mess down our throats that one of our lovely leaders told them, "we have to pass it to see what's in it", ummm, NO, you SHOULD know everything that is in it to pass it. He all talk and not at all trying to help this country.

I know nothing about this whole election but reading some of these comments has irritated the LIFE out of me, particularly the ones in the tone of "why should we all pay for everyone else to sit at home on their butt whilst they get paid for it/get food stamps" etc etc.

Ask yourselves, if your situation changed and you had no income whatsoever what would you do? Starve? Unlikely. The benefits for these people are there for a reason. And yes, of course it can be said that some do abuse the system, but not everyone. It is not fair to penalise the people who truely depend on the benefits by taking them away just so you have an extra bit of money at the end of the month.

What the hell do you want? A country that doesn't have taxes at all so you can be better off? A country that will not provide for you if one day (god forbid) you find yourselves with nothing? Don't be so ridiculous. This is the 21st century!

And yes, in agreement with others, electricity and gas are necessities! As are clothes! :dohh: :dohh:

I don't think anyone is referring to the people who actually need it. The frustration comes in where people abuse the system and choose NOT to work because they can live off welfare without doing anything. That's not right.

I agree with Romney that the STATES need to individually decide what is best welfare wise for their state. I'd never propose cutting welfare all together but there needs to be stricter controls IMO. If you read my post, why should people on food stamps be allowed to use them to pay for junk food? That just doesn't make sense to me.

And as I said, people DO abuse the system but the help needs to be there because there are people who will always need it. It isn't just in America that this applies to. Im notsure if you are in UK or USA but Im in the UK and unfortunately it is very common for people to abuse the system. However, those of us who work still need to pay taxes to support those in need anyway  It's always going to be one of those things unfortunately. You can't take from the poor to give to the rich. Thats not right.

I have seen FAR more people that could easily be working that have been on welfare for years. As a teacher in a low income school, we see the parents that DON'T try at all to help themselves. They are better off just taking MY money and not trying to work. My mom has actually had people turn down work because they would make too much to receive benefits. I'm sorry, but if you have the opportunity to get a job that pays more than minimum wage you should NEVER be able to turn it down in leu of government benefits. (And your housing, food, extra money, health insurance (with BETTER benefits/ rates than I get paying $400/month for it!), electricity, water, and CELL PHONE should NOT all be paid for in ANY circumstance if you are able bodied to work.)

We have socialised medicine. That's what people mean in the us.

That is purely what they mean when they say Obama will turn the US into a socialist country?!

I just honestly don't understand the appeal of Mitt Romney. The whole '47%' thing, saying in the debate that the government does not create jobs - does he even WANT to be president? I liked the description of him being the real life version of the rich asshole in a 1980's high school comedy :haha:

Our government's role was CLEARLY spelled out in the Constitution. Much of what we have today is unconstitutional. They was supposed to be MINIMAL taxation for only things necessary for the running of our country (infrastructure, defense, etc.). It is NOT supposed to paying people who don't want to work to stay home or paying for anyone's medical care! The whole 47% thing was completely taken out of context. I think he meant they don't matter in trying to convince them to vote for him in a campaign. Those of us that DO have to pay for the 47% really don't look too kindly at them anyway. If you are able to work (even if you have kids) get your butt off the couch and GET A JOB (and stop having kids you can't afford). It's one thing if you are truly unable to work, but I think everyone can agree that 47% of the population is NOT in that position. If you can't work you should not be living up to the standards of those that pay for you either. There is NO need for a cell phone. There is also no need for a private home (or even technically electricity). The things required to live are water, food (and steaks, shrimps, booze are NOT required), shelter, and clothing (though technically not really a biological need). Anything beyond that should not be provided. There is SO much abuse of the system (obviously if 47% of the population is getting money BACK from the government) it's sickening that we have to work so hard to pay for deadbeats that have as many as 10 kids (when they couldn't afford the first). Obama has had 4 years to fix things and they are still just as bad or worse than when he came in. Though I don't think Romney is a glowing example of what we need, at least he is different than the fool who already had 4 years and has only made a bigger mess for us.

Just :nope:

I highly doubt most military families will be voting for Obama. I'm so frustrated and there's so many things that are just not right.

1. My husband and I shelling out at least a thousand dollars of our own money for equipment before a deployment to keep him ALIVE.
2. People sitting around doing nothing while we pay for them. My husband risking his life in Afghanistan AND Iraq while I worked here in the US pregnant and miserable. And for what? So we could pay for people who don't desire to work?
-True story, I used to work at a take and bake pizza place in highschool. We accepted food stamps. People would order all the time and use their food stamps for what?? JUNK. Junky pizza ( like seriously heart attack inducing double cheese/double pepperoni) and tons of soda. That is not OK to me.
3. A ton of our services have been closed on base because there's no money to fund it. Gyms, rec centers etc etc. Obama says the military isn't requesting any money and DH and I both went :wacko::dohh:
4. There's something not right about military families being on food stamps. ( Not us but a lot of families we know are on WIC etc)

I beg to differ. I have been active duty military for the past 10 years, specifically in military intel. I will be voting for Obama, as will many of my shipmates and coworkers. The food stamp issue regarding junk food is a battle with the FDA, not the president. Overprocessed food is much cheaper in the long run, affording the ability for food stamps to be stretched a little further.

That is true. I'm on Canada welfare and have no fresh produce, and my only meat is wild game my dad brings me as junk food is soooo much cheaper.

I suppose when it comes down to it, the way I see it, the president has no higher duty than Commander in Chief. I feel like he has wronged us military families so much in this area. I'm sure other families are going to feel differently but I haven't heard of anyone out where we're stationed that is supporting Obama, even those that voted in 08' for him.

I've heard Obama say so many times how important it is that we take care of our nation's military families. However, I've seen nothing but negative things happen the last four years. Our base has had to cut so many programs it's ridiculous. One of my husbands favorite things to do to relax has been to work at the base's woodshop and it helps his post-combat stress issues tremendously. This has unfortunately been on the chopping block of the most recent budget cut:nope:

Also, I just don't think it's right or fair the amount of money we have to supply out of pocket to pay for gear. I mean we're struggling just to stay on top of things as it is and then deployment comes around the corner and I brace for the financial impact on our family. It's already hard enough gearing up emotionally to say goodbye again but then having to have financial stress on top of that makes everything so much worse.

The beautiful thing about America is that everybody gets a vote and a voice. These are just my opinions. Everybody should get out and vote on November 6th, and let democracy decide. Either way I sure hope that our nation heads in a more positive direction these next four years than the last. God Bless America.

I see your point about there being many people who abuse the system, and thats true in other countries too however that doesnt mean it should be taken away. They should in general get tougher on abusers and form policies that make it harder for them to take advantage, but do you really want to live in a country where the rich rule and pay a lower tax rate than you? Not to mention a government that wants to take you back 10, 20 or more years.

I'm nervous about the direction of the US and Im not even American.

I'm in Canada but have been watching the debates and such.

Romney scares me (even as a Canadian) and TBH I think his social policies are ass backwards and are bad for everyone, not just Americans.

Plus Ann Coulter supports Romney and she's a terrible person, so that's another reason to steer clear of him.

I think if the rest of the world was allowed to vote in the election, then Obama would win for sure. I didn't watch the debate tonight, but apparently Obama won? Anyone watch it?

Also, hello staralfur! Nice to see someone from the lower mainland!

Even if you guys want change, Romney has made it clear what his beliefs are and that he doesn't think he should seperate them from his job. The fact that he's so anti gay alone will send ya back ten years. I worry for my gay friends. Anyone would be less scary then him. I truly believe he needs to stay far away from power with his close mindedness. Anyone is better then him IMO. I'd vote a penguin in over him.

Romney is getting made fun of left and right on Facebook. "Iran is Syria's route to the sea." :dohh: Durrrrrrrrrr.

This is GOLD

That is a bit rude. :nope:

Eh, I'm not bothered. Sly digs at Americans are common place in my day to day life

 But don't you know Obama wasn't born in the USA?!?!?!?! SCANDAL AND HORROR!
