My Lo is 5 weeks old, corrected age minus 1 week, he was pretty much draining 120ml (4oz) feeds 2 days ago for 2 days so the HV said to up the amount of feeds to 150ml (5oz), which I did, but the amount he takes has been all over the place since then.
1am- 150ml
4am 90ml
8am 120ml
1130am 100ml
330pm 90ml
730pm 150ml
1130 pm 60ml
330am 110ml
730ml 120ml

all seems a bit all over the place, I know babies are hungry at diff times etc but he hasnt been this erratic before, and also I am throwing away alot of formula! ahhrr!

any ideas as to whats going on and how to save some formula!

Maybe try upping the every second feed. If LO is taking more at the first one, may not want that much second, but will be hungrier for the third?

eg offer 150ml, 120ml, 150ml, 120ml - it may help with saving waste.

It sounds like LO is taking plenty so dont worry. Anna would take 4oz max at that age - 5 or 6 bottles a day.

At that young age we just fed her when she wanted feeding. I would have stuck to the 4oz bottle and if she cried for more then I would have gave her some more or if she drained them all in a day I would increase a couple of them but not all the bottles.
:flower:

thanks, yea what I have done is made 120ml bottles plus 30ml ones so if he drains the 120 ml I can quickly warm the 30ml one! has worked so far!

I have just upped my sons bottles to 5oz and he too is all over the place. I cant note them down as they vary so much but sometimes he only takes 2.5 - 3oz and then will go 3 hours. He has also drained a 5oz bottle and then wants feeding 2 hours later! Then he will drain another 5oz and go 3 hours and then only take 3-4oz. Its really messed up.

As he was doing this, I went back to 4oz bottles and he drained them completely so I thought he must really want 5oz and he then only takes 3.5oz. Lots of wasted milk and as there is no pattern, I have to go with the 5oz and hope he finises as much as possible.

He tends to feed about 5.00am and then is hungry again at 7.00am and then come the next feed 3 hours later, really struggle to finish 4oz and drinks very slowly.

Your baby feeds exactly like mine think they are the same age too. Ollie was draining 4oz bottles so went up to 5oz and then he would only take 3 or so and then go 4hrs and have a 5oz and then only go a couple of hrs and he is taking them so slowly compared to usual.

Same here, my LO is 5 weeks tomorrow and I upped her bottle to 5 oz about 4 days ago, sometimes wants 5, then 3 and mostly 4.5!!

I am struggling with the same issue. I have my 8 week old on four ounces a feed. but she is never really satisfied...wants more milk two hrs later... I thought she should be going 3 hrs between feeds.. but nope...she barely makes it two hrs..

I think I might start increasing every other feed to see how she does on that...
