Baby gets a growth gene from one of their parents... So, if both parents were small babies, your baby would be small. If both parents were big babies, the baby would be big. If one parent was big and the other small, it could go either way. Of course, there are other factors that could change this, like GD/diabetes or other things, but this is a guideline...
Your baby being smaller right now probably means that they got a growth gene from a parent who was a small baby. It could also mean that the measurements are off and that baby is larger than appears... It could also mean that your baby has a growth spurt coming up soon. Either way, if baby had plenty of fluid and plenty of room and was just smaller than average with no problems, I wouldn't worry at all!
