I had an anatomy scan at my OB 4 weeks ago, I still have not gotten any results. After my initial anatomy scan, a week later I also had an appt at Maternal Fetal Medicine an hour away to check for cleft lip/palate since that runs on mine and my husband's side of the family. There was no sign of cleft lip or palate, however, they did spot an eif (bright spot in heart) which is a soft marker for DS. The specialist told me everything else looked fine, but that they would send a report to my OB to discuss further. I had an appointment scheduled for today to discuss results from both ultrasounds, last minute they called to reschedule... for next week. I am already anxious as it is. I have called twice in the last week & left a voicemail to talk about my ultrasound and my concerns. The nurse practitioner takes all calls/voicemails, but has not returned either of my calls, which in the past has always gotten back to me within a few hours. I think it's kind of getting ridiculous that by the time I see my doctor, it will be 5 weeks since my anatomy scan. Everyone I've talked to has told me they saw their OB right after their scan, or got a call within a few days whether it was good or bad news. I am getting a little stressed out, as today I also wanted to talk to him about getting a more accurate blood test done since the EIF was spotted & due to the fact the only blood test I've had is a penta screen (similar to quad screen) and I've heard they are not reliable. I was never offered or told about my options for any blood tests earlier on, or an NT scan. As a ftm I feel I am slightly naive, and wish in the beginning I had known more so I could've been more on top of things. I'm super frustrated I'm not being called back, and now have to wait another week. I have not heard of anyone having to wait 5 weeks for anatomy scan results. Since I've been pregnant I've had appointments cancelled and rescheduled a total of 3 times. My only hope is if something seemed off or of concern, that they would have called me by now.

We are expecting our third and I have always had to wait until my next scheduled appt to get results. I haven't received my results yet as my appt isn't until next week. For me it will be a day or two shy of 3 weeks between my ultrasound and midwife appt. I think it's unprofessional for them to not return your calls, but they won't be able to give you the results over the phone.

I don't expect my results over the phone, the nurse practitioner is not allowed to tell me and she's the one who takes calls/voicemails. I would just like a call back and some acknowledgement of my concerns, and I have called twice. If there was not a marker spotted at mfm, and I had more reliable testing done, I wouldn't be as frustrated. I also was in the hospital at labor and delivery last week, and I was supposed to have a follow up on that today as well. I've had a lot of health issues with this pregnancy so far, and not seeing my ob for 5 weeks is pushing it.

i was just saying that they might not have called you back due to them assuming that you want the results over phone. I think 5 weeks waiting is too long the longest I have waited is 4 weeks. Given your history they shouldn't have rescheduled you, they should have squeezed you in with a different provider.

Our baby was just diagnosed with an EIF at the anatomy scan as well. The doctor called me the. Ext business day to discuss the anomaly over the phone. The doctor then contacted a high risk doctor and they called me to schedule a level 2 ultrasound.

Luckily, I already had a regular OB appointment scheduled for a week after I received the news. And the high risk doctor got us in quickly, we go this Thursday, which is about a week and a half after we received the news.

Doctor said after the ultrasound, we'll discuss if anything else needs to be done (like genetic testing). However, if that is the ONLY anomaly they found, it's not uncommon in normal pregnancies. There's almost no cases of a genetic issue when the EIF is all they find. My doctor told me I really shouldn't worry at all, they just have to investigate to cover their bases. An EIF does not effect the structure or abilities of the heart.

Honestly, ask dr google. I found him to be quite friendly with the EIF and it eased so many of my fears.

Also yes. It's ridiculous to make you wait that long. I'd be livid.

You have every right to be upset that they haven't updated you in 4/5 weeks since their scan. I'm sorry I don't have any advice for you, but I would be furious and would probably be calling the office on the daily until someone got back to me. I'm sorry you're dealing with this!

My anatomy scan is scheduled for Friday at 1:30. I have an appointment with my OB on Friday at 2:30. What they're doing to you is unacceptable, IMO

The general rule of thumb is that no news is good news. I do agree it's quite unprofessional that you haven't received a call back. I personally would be calling again and make a bigger stink over the phone.

If you are in the US, the law dictates that you are entitled to your medical records. So if you are that desperate, make the drive out there... sign a medical release form and get the darn results yourself. They cannot legally keep the results from you. And for the record, the ordering provider of the ultrasound CAN give results over the phone. Maybe not other providers but the ordering provider can.

I'm not sure what it's like in other countries. Regardless, not returning a phone call is unprofessional. If it was a real concern, such as unexplained bleeding, I would hope they would return your call. But you then have to ask yourself.... with their history, would they?
