I was talking to my SIL about teething the other day and she said that when her 2 were teething she used anbesol liquid. I've just looked for it online and it say's it's safe for babies but also say's you need a prescription for it:wacko:

Am I looking at the right thing???

I bought some from boots the other day and didnt need a prescription for it. It is behind the counter though.
x

it's a pharmacy medicine, just over the counter. defo not prescription only

I got it from behind the counter at Boots, and it works wonders! xx

defo not prescription you can get it in any pharmacy, supermarkets too. i find it better than bonjella.

The liquid should only be used for children over two years of age. It is double the strength of the baby version which comes in a gel. Unfortunately I didn't know this and a friend of ours gave my 7 month old baby the liquid version. He was violently sick and started shaking an hour after having it. Some people are allergic to an active ingredient in anbesol and so if you give the adult version to a baby who may be allergic then there's trouble!

Stick to the gel for under twos!

The active ingredient in Anbesol liquid is the same as the active ingredient in Detinox teething gel for babies :-S

I have the Anbesol liquid and is fine for LO, only thing that actually seems to help her.
I had asked for the Teething Gel but the Pharmacist recommended the liquid :-s

Edited - Sorry forgot to say i purchased from over the counter in asda :-)

My own doctor actually recommended Anbesol, I showed her the bottle I have, doesn't say it's for babies or adults only and she said that's fine.

My friend said it is excellent but as the ladies said it;s over the counter only. apparently makes your finger numb when you apply it! the leaflet inside says its ok for babies. Emily has no teeth yet (sigh!) but when they come through i think i will get some, i think its about £4 x

Oh god I made this thread aaaaaaaaages ago I was really shocked when I saw it had replies .

Yes it is safe to use with babies, my DD seems to cope with teething ok now (touch wood) but when she was younger it was the only thing that worked for her.. It doesn't make you're finger numb though (at least it didn't mine) :haha:
