Another iPhone question :s

When I put my pictures onto my laptop they turn sideways. landscaoe I think? And when I try to rotate them so they are the correct way round it says it cannot do it due to a problem with the pictures properties.
I've had a google and there's nothing helpful and I've looked at the pictures properties and it doesn't say read only or anything really annoying coz it's all our xmas day pics and they are all sideways!
Does anyone know how to fix this?
