Another way to describe contractions...?

Mine started like period cramps then felt like lower.belly was really tight and I had lots of pain in my back as my baby wad back to back!

Wow thanks for all the responses!
I guess in general, i will know when i am in labor lol.

The reason i asked is because i heard of women getting braxton hicks, preterm contractions, early labor contractions, etc. and i pretty much was curious as to how actual labor contractions differed from all these???

Braxton hicks are just tight across your tummy, contractions are uncomfortable to painful and are not just across your tummy.

When my contactions started they were like mild period cramps but as i got further into the labour (around 6-7cm) they got a lot worse. The best way i can describe them is the worst possible case of an upset stomach mixed with the worst ever period cramps. Its all worth it in the end though :)

At the start, like you have to fart
At the end, like a calf cramp over your whole body
In transition, like your pelvic floor weighs 500lbs (because the baby is *right there*)
At the crowning, RELIEF!!!

(My 2nd, with no pain relief - with my 1st (epidural), I had no feeling). I much preferred my no pain relief birth.

I went straight in with very intense contractions as my labour was very short, but you know when you have an upset stomach and your tummy cramps up and you're like 'I have to get to the toilet...NOW!' that's what it was like for me!

In early labor, contractions feel like mild menstrual cramps which I know doesn't help you since you've never had them. It's a dull pain that comes and goes and is tolerable. During the second half of labor, it just feels like severe abdominal pain to me--I have no other words to describe the contractions.

Hmm, i will take all of the responses into consideration!!!

A couple more questions.
When contractions come and go, in the going phase, are they actually COMPLETELY gone or is there a lingering dull pain left behind?
Or is it different for people?

Also,
a cpl years ago, i miscarried at about 11 weeks. At the hospital, i passed something when i went to the bathroom, it looked like the placenta?
The pain i was feeling then, could that maybe be something i can compare contractions to? Although, i do not remember the pain coming and going at all when it got to the worst part but once i passed whatever i passed, the pain went down to almost nothing.

MIne build, peak , fade then go completely but obviously they start alot further apart and the more into labour you get they can feel unrelenting

Between contractions, it was a complete break (for me at least). At 10cm, I would be screaming & grabbing onto my midwives, and then during the break, I would be laughing and joking with them!!! It's a very odd experience :)

RE: Miscarraige
That really depends on the person. I had an MC at 10 weeks (after my 1st, so I knew contractions) and I had zero pain. Other women, who have had full term births, say their miscarriages at late 1st tri were actually worse. I'm sorry that can't really answer your question!

For me, they feel like a dull pain at first & gradually they get more painful! Like a squeezing pain, like my uterus is being twisted in a rope. Tighter & tighter.

& currently, I am getting a dull pain (menstrual like cramps) off/on... it is making me nervous! because that what happened to me with my first labour... it would gradually get more painful. So I'm not sure what to expect here during my 34-35 weeks.
