any advice???

I was wondering if anyone can help me, i am pregnant again after two mc's and so scared. I had first one in feb and it was mmc at 12.5 although baby only grew to 9 weeks and the second was natural and happened alot earlier in may. I wanted to ask if anyone knows if i should be requesting any tests (hcg levels, blood cloting etc) or be asking to see someone early. I am worried that i will mc before i get to midwife. I have been to see GP but he was male and didnt really know anything and just referred me to midwife as normal. I am thinking of going to see the female GP that i have seen through both mc's on monday (she works p/t so couldnt see her the other day). Is this being over the top? I would be grateful for any advice x

They could offer you quantative hcg to reassure you, and you could ask for an early scan again for reassurance but these aren't things that are offered as a matter of course and some areas won't do reassurance scans.

If you do get a reassurance scan it might be worth going at 9 weeks as due to your mmc you will prob still be very worried until you are past the point at which you mc - and even then will still worry!! . Just be aware that they may use this as your dating scan and you may not get the 12 week scan unless they do the nuchal scan and you request this - it is still only piloting in certain areas so it is a post code lottery as to whether this is offered.

I was lucky scan wise - I had my mw appt at 6 weeks and already had early scan arranged as my consultant had adv I should have this at 7 weeks, the MW said this would be my dating scan but I also requested the nuchal scan - when I was scanned I was 6+5 so they said it was to early for dating. I then had a private scan at 8+5 as this was after the point I mc so was reassuring for me.

thank you hb1, you mentioned nuchal scan being a post code lottery and you have been lucky enough it get one, can i be noisy and ask what hospital you our at as i am also from cheshire. Sorry if thats rude x

no worries - I was in Leighton hospital. My friend was at the Countess in Chester and they didn't do it. She is a nurse and says it is only piloting in certain areas - should be everywhere by next year....

i'll be countess of chester aswel, never mind. Thanks for advice i will request hcg level and maybe see about early scan. I had private one with the first but lost it after so i think i'll wait until after 9 weeks like you suggested x

Hi - I was in the same position with this pregnancy after 2 mmc's. Hom im sorry for your losses and congratulations on being pregnant again. Its scary I know so

I would make an appointment to see the MW early - dont just wait for them to contact you because they wont be aware of the previous mc's unless the Dr specifically mentioned it.

I also went for a reassurance scan at 8 weeks (8+5) -both my losses were at 6 weeks although like you I didnt know until weeks later. My mw arranged it without me asking - bless her. So a 9 week scan would be a great idea

I also had to go private for my nuchal scan because nowhere in Wales do it on the NHS! That was massively reassuring too.

Thanks Mizze, I think i will contact the midwife department tomorrow and tell them my history and hopefully see someone soon x
