My wisdom tooth is driving me insane!
The bottom left one is decaying, I need it removed!
I had an infection in it at the beginning of August.
I was waiting for my referral to the dental hospital so I could have X-rays done when I found out I was expecting!

I've since had a regular check up at the dentist, she said its only a matter of time before I get another infection... I think that time has come! :(
I'm getting the same odd feeling I had at the beginning last time... It also feels like my tooth is crumbling abit.

What do I do?
I am scared about having it extracted but I'd rather it was just gone now, it's driving me mad.

But is it safe during pregnancy??
I'm most worried about having the X-ray... These shouldn't be done during pregnancy should they?
I'm 16 weeks now.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated... I think I will have to be brave and make an emergency appointment

I'm not a dentist, but I did have an emergency root canal when I was 17/18 weeks along. I wanted to wait until after baby, but the pain was too much. I got a note from my OB that said it was ok to get one x-ray. The x-ray isn't anywhere near your abdomen, and they will give you double lead aprons. Honestly, you may not even need an x-ray if your tooth is so far gone.

It is WAY WORSE to have an infection than get an x-ray. Infections that are left out of control can cause pre-term labor and all kinds of icky stuff. Go get that tooth out - the dentist prefers to do work in the 2nd tri anyway, and can still give you safe numbing. You'll feel better and it's healthier for your baby. Good luck, I know how awful tooth things while pregnant can be!! :)

I'm definitely worried about getting an infection, I know they can be quite dangerous in pregnancy.
My tooth definitely needs removing, no doubt, there's not even any room in my mouth for all these wisdom teeth! Lol.
My dentist said I need the X-ray to check how close my tooth is to the nerve in my jaw.

I'm so annoyed that they kept me waiting so long for the referral, this could have been sorted before I became pregnant... Although it is my own fault for getting pregnant lol.

It actually feels better now... I was just rinsing with some hot salt water and a shard of tooth has come out! I wonder if that was causing the discomfort... Fingers crossed it stays calm!

Sorry for rambling... I'm just fed up, it's so typical for something like this to happen right before Xmas. I've got a splitting headache aswel because I've not eaten all morning for fear of making things worse.

Thanks for your reply!

Yeah, def. get it taken out asap. Poor you, probably sucks so much! If a tooth shard came out, you definitely need that tooth out!! I was super afraid of getting dental work done while pregnant, but my OB and dentist were really reassuring, and it didn't hurt at all, just the annoying drill sound. Good luck!!!

Don't be scared to have a wisdom tooth out, I had an impacted one out a few months ago and it was fine, honestly.

They try not to use injections upto 12 weeks, but you should be fine in second Tri :) Get it out. Mine was awful.

Thank you both!!
I'm definitely gonna make an appointment to get it seen to, hopefully I won't have to wait too long for the referral this time seeing as I'm pregnant.
I'm just hoping I can get through Xmas without any flare ups... No turkey for me otherwise! lol.
Thanks ladies, really appreciate your advice x

to hurry up the process, i would tell them that you're pregnant, and also that shards of tooth are coming out and you're in pain. they should really rush you in!

Yeah, bits of tooth breaking off is not a good sign is it? Lol.
Damn wisdom teeth, I've never had a problem with any other tooth before.
I'll def be pulling the pregnancy card lol x

I had to have an emergency root canal during my first pregnancy. I have a cavity now but the dentist prefers to wait until baby is born unless it gets worse. Hope you get it taken care of quickly! Not fun! 😟

I had a wisdom tooth removed that was decaying and practically chipped away. I went to an oral surgeon, he gave me a little numbing injection, and i kid you not the removal of tooth from start to finish was no more than a minute. He said that it came out easily because it was decaying.
And I have a family member who is a dentist, she told me that tooth infection during pregnancy should not be taken lightly. So definitely get that tooth out.

I'm not a dentist, but I do work in the dental field! I work with children, but I do know you can have treatment done while pregnant! If the tooth has already become infected, you defiantly need to get it out! If left untreated, the infection can get in your blood stream. That's usually more on the rare or extreme cases, but I wouldn't want to take the chance while pregnant and that's one reason it's taken so seriously while pregnant!
