Any fellow Irish ladies help me with a problem!??? V

Ok,
My husband (American) and I (Irish) live in the States, down in a southern state, we have named our two boys Irish names and we are expecting baby no 3 (who we don't know if is a boy or a girl) anyways, i love the name Aoibheann, the problem is my husband who also likes the name just can't get past the spelling of it. Normally I wouldn't budge on the spelling but I got to name both our boys and feel like he does have a good argument that the child would forever have to deal with the issue of explaining the "bh" is pronounced as a "v" issue. So my question, what do you all think of the spelling Aoiveann? I hate to take away from the original spelling but I truely love the name and just the sounding of it is beautiful. Do you think this would work? Thanks for reading this

If I were you, I'd stick to the original spelling. Yeah, it's unusual and they will probably have to correct friends and teachers on the pronunciation for the rest of their life. However, I think that's true of the modified spelling as well. If you're going with a unique and cultural name (which I think is great), you might as well go all in.

I'd stick to the original too. The rest of the name isn't obviously pronounced either so it'll make little difference.

Or do you like Aileen? It's close but a more Anglicised spelling.

I flipping love that name. I knew a girl in Ireland named aoibheann and have loved the name since. I actually posed it to my Irish husband for our first daughter but he wasn't gone on it. I'd use the Irish spelling, personally.

Hiya, my name is Bríd, which is fine if you live in Ireland but alas it does not travel well. I now live on Scotland and I have to explain my name all the time. As I work in a call centre I have given in and go by the name Bridget. I love the name Aoibheann, but for an easier life Eveen or similar would probably be appreciated. Even Enya changed the spelling of her name from Eithne.

I agree with the others. If you want it to be a name from Irish origin and are stuck on it being Irish, go with the spelling.

If you just like the sound of the name you can spell it however you like, but I think it might loose it's Irish roots.
