Hello ladies,

We have just completed our fourth SA and we are expecting zero sperm again. No results yet, but are pretty sure. Once the doc gets back to us with the results we will discuss biopsy's and aspirations in preparation for IVF.

Can any of you tell me the length of time the process may take?? I am getting quite impatient (as all of you are as well) and I am curious what the average time for the procedure was and what conclusions came out of them. My hubby is worried about the procedure and I wanted to see if the results were good for you ladies or if not, maybe we should just do an aspiration.

I would appreciate any and all advice. I am having a terribly hard time seeing all my friends get pregnant and have babies and I am still sitting here waiting and trying.

Thanks ladies, I appreciate your input!

Just typed a big long reply and the browser crashed and lost it! I'll start again.

My husband underwent an mTESE in March. This involved both testies being removed then, using a strong microscope to identify healthy 'bulgy' areas, small biopsies were taken. We were incredibly lucky that the surgeon was able to find enough motile sperm for 5 straws. Post op, it was made out just how lucky we were. It seems had we opted for the normal, less invasive, TESE they would not have found any living sperm as they would not have been able to pinpoint the appropriate areas.

The operation took a couple hours and required an over night stay, although I think ordinarily it is a day procdure. The recovery was around two weeks which was longer than we expected as my husband was told he would be able to return to work after two days. In reality it was over a week. Also, he was in more discomfort than anticipated. This may have been due, in part, to the fact that when they were doing the op, they also tried to find and clear a blockage using tubes and dye (this is why he stayed overnight). Unfortunately, they found the cause of his azoospermia is that he is missing both vas deferens. (Something I am pretty sure should have been picked up earlier, after the MRI or something!)

We had to go private for the op as we are too young to qualify for NHS funding. The wait time from initial consultation to the actual operation was probably around 5 or 6 weeks. We are still waiting for our initial consultation for IVF but, if all goes well, that is booked for next month, about 7 weeks after posting the referral letter (again that is private). In the meantime, there have been blood tests ect to have done ready for the initial consultation. Lots and lots of waiting but least things are moving. I hope this is at least a little helpful!
