Rule #1 of a VBAC birth - BELIEVE you can do it.
Rule #2 of a VBAC birth - Don't always trust what the doctors say..
I had my firstborn via elective caesarean (I did not go into labour) due to a breech baby in 2004. I cried and cried and cried I didn't want it done and even on the day I was screaming for it not to be done but I was held down with the anesthetics and it happened anyway (My 'birth' story features on the Birth Trauma association website).
My second child was born at home (planned), despite the same obstetrician serving me death threats that IF I survived I'd need a hysterectomy and that my son would be born dead. Not one problem occurred in my 20 hour labour and he was born a healthy 7lb 8oz.
I'd wanted a home birth with my first so was determined this one was going to be a natural birth. I was told that if I went into labour and hospital, having had a previous caesarean they would continuously monitor me past 3cm and I would not be allowed to have a water birth!
My third child was also born at home (again, planned)
My 4th successful pregnancy was TWINS. I was in labour for 2 days before I finally admitted defeat and took myself to hospital. Both babies were stuck in a double transverse position. I actually had my first ever understanding midwife in this pregnancy, she said head or bum we'd deal with but they can't come out sideways.
Unfortunately this ended in an emergency caesarean, but even the surgeon had problems removing the babies as they were tightly compacted.
Now I am pregnant with just one baby I am having an unassisted home birth. No medical professional will be present because each times I have felt under pressure to comply with what they want rather than what I want.
Did they try to turn the baby with you?
IF you have another breech baby (highly unlikely) there is plenty of things YOU can do to turn the baby, check out ''spinning babies'', moxibustion techniques, positions to do in the weeks before birth to optimize the babies position etc.
Any questions, feel free to ask xx
