Hi
ive been fully breast feeding for 6 weeks now. Im going out tomorrow night and leaving LO with OH. I have decided to give baby formula whilst im out.
I think we might give LO formula on an evening from now on if it goes well.
Im really nervous.
Does anyone have any tips for BF & Fomula feeding. Just want to take the pressure off on an evening but dont want to stop BH.
Im also unsure as to how hot the formula has to be.
Any help would be appreciated x

I think if you want to introduce formula you have to be prepared for your LO to reject your breast. It doesn't always happen, but it can. Just incase!

Milk should be given at body temperature the same as your milk babe. Have you tried expressing or have you definitely made the decision to give formula....just asking as I wasn't sure if you'd thought about it or not.

You are still in the early days of breastfeeding and your body is still getting established. Replacing one or more feeds with formula will mean that your body will slow down the production of milk...I just wanted to warn you as a lot of people think that your body will save the "extra milk" but this is incorrect. Basically your body will produce the correct mount of milk for your baby's needs so if you feed a bottle of formula every night, gradually over a few days you'r body will produce less milk in accordance to how much formula baby is drinking. Does that make sense???

I'm not trying to talk you out of it honey but pointing it out in case you weren't aware:hugs::hugs::hugs::hugs:. Have you tried baby with formula or bottle before??? You need to know that baby will take it before you go out as breastfed babies don't always take to a bottle easily and may scream the whole time you're out:dohh:

Have fun:happydance:

Thanks
i think I might express instead, im going to give it ago tonight to make sue Lo is happy with the bottle, im not sure how much I will need to leave though, hope I have enough.
How long can I keep it in the fridge for?
My gosh i feel like i have left it to late.

thanks again x

i tried Leila on a bottle of expressed milk and she HATED the bottle!! :( only wanted her daddy to have a go cus he felt left out!! xx

Kathryn was fine on combining breast milk and formula milk. She switched without an problems but I would definitely try before you go out to make sure that she'll take the bottle. My OH used to put one of my tops over his shoulder at first so that she could smell me as she fed.
Expressed milk is fine in the fridge, it just neeeds to be body temp when feeding. I can't remember how long it lasts but i think it's at least 12 hours??? Don't quote me on that I've forgotten.
Good luck and enjoy your night out.
