I don't mean to sound rude, I just wanna know who else out there is from the states. I really enjoy talking and reading about the ladies all over the world but I just don't understand some of the lingo. I try and I believe I have broadened my horizons slightly form looking up the info and words online. Just wanna see who else out there is with me.

I'm from the states (south east). I am on Baby #3!! YAY!! I have had/will have a hospital birth for all of my babies (never really thought about anything else seeing as we don't have any other options available in my immediate area.) My area hospitals don't offer water births. As a matter of fact, I have never even seen a tub in the hospitals. I don't know any midwifes. Yet I enjoy reading about all the other options the other areas of the world (and some parts of US) have available to them.

On my first baby and in the heart of Kentucky, lol.

I know what you mean about the lingo though. Love the women here but sometimes I need google to translate. Lol

Texas lady here!

Baby number 5! Other children are 19, 17, 14, 19 months.

I had a hospital birth with all of mine, and only had an epidural with my 19month old. I must say, it was a very relaxing labor! (the actual birth part...not so relaxing and I am so glad I had the epidural. My DD was 10 lbs 3 oz!) I am planning a hospital birth with this one as well, and think I'll ask for the epidural as soon as I walk thru the door. :haha: I've had 3 natural births, so I know I can do it. At this point I have nothing to prove, so I want to be comfortable.

I'm a Tennessee Country Girl!
I am going for natural this time! I had DS#1 with epidural 28+ labor hours born at 37weeks 8lbs! . DS #2 sent to be induced at 38weeks, but already in labor 24+labor hours at hospital with epidural but had to stop meds as my contractions were slowing down, so epi wore off about 3-4 hours before birth (so natural birth that time). This time I'm going for no epi and natural all the way (as much as possible in the hospital) Good luck ladies and thank you again for the replies!!

Southwest Missouri! Pregnant with my first, hubby's second. Hospital and epidural all the way! I applaud women who want to go natural and fully support them...however, as my anesthesiologist said, there's no medal at the end and no parade for doing it without! ;)

Born & Raised in Florida!

My hospital offered me a tub when I was in labor, but they told me in the US the Board of OB/GYN's said they no longer allow you to deliver in the water for some reason. They only offer it to soothe you while in labor.. was anyone else told that too?

I'm also from Missouri, but we'll soon be moving to central Illinois. After years of TTC, I'm pregnant with my second child. The hospital near my current house does offer things like water birthing pools, but I had a very good experience with a typical epidural birth last time so I plan to stick with that.

I've also had to look up terms I see here to figure out what people are talking about and sometimes that's a bad idea! It's very unfortunate that google decides to automatically bring up pictures when you do a search. Yikes.

Hello from Utah! :flower: I have a 2 year old and a 1 year old.

I have a friend who had a home water birth with a midwife, but she's definitely an exception. Most everyone here does hospital births with OBs, and I've never seen a birthing pool at the hospital. Personally, I'm totally okay with the standard hospital birth with an epidural. I feel comfortable and that's really all I want from my birth experience.

As for the lingo, after posting on this forum pretty actively for over 3 years, I'd like to think I know most of the terms and expressions by now. In fact, sometimes I think in British expressions just to amuse myself, like, "Jeez, I'm shattered this morning." or "One more tantrum and I'm going to lose the plot!" :haha:

I am from Illinois, born and raised :)
My husband is in the military and we have been to Texas, Guam, California, and Illinois as apart of military orders.
He, on the other hand, has been all around the world- Ireland, Germany, Kyrgyzstan, Japan, and all across the U.S.

Born and raised in Boston Massachusetts :). I have a five almost six years old and currently pregnant with my second. Dont know much about home and water birth though lol. I'm all for the epidural. I had a good labor experience with it and I plan to do it again :). Good to see there's more ppl from the states. I understand some of the lingo on here but I do also have to google some of it lol.

You'd be surprised, there's actually a LOT of women on here from the states. But I do find myself using a lot of UK terms now when I discuss pregnancy! :haha:

I'm from Michigan, and on baby #2. I had my son in 2013, all natural - no pain meds. More because the thought of a needle in my spine scared me as much as labor does! And the stories from some of my friends about how bad their epidurals turned out. I will admit, I did finally ask for an intrathecal (similar to an epidural, but not as strong/allows you to still move, etc...) but by that time it was too late and I was ready to push.

My hospital also offers a tub for labor, but does not allow water births.

I'm from all over the East Coast (PA, DE, IL, IA, VA, GA) , but currently settled in Washington.

My OB's office uses a birth center for deliveries that is associated with a hospital. Hospital is right next door to the birth center if any emergencies arise. The birth center allows laboring in a tub, but I don't believe birthing in water is allowed. I've read up on this center (since this baby is my first and I'm extra careful with everything) and they even provide birthing stool, bar and ball if wanted.

Hoping for an all natural, no meds labor, but we'll see how it goes when I'm actually laboring.

I'm from Illinois but now live in North Dakota (middle of nowhere USA lol!). With my first we were in Illinois and I was lucky enough to have a great midwife in a very well respected hospital, so for me it was the best of both worlds. I was able to labor at home until my midwife said to come in, and I labored in the tub until I was ready for an epidural. Now I have an OBGYN and I can totally see the difference in care between midwife/OB- my midwife never stressed about abnormal test results or readings and made me feel like pregnancy was so normal, while my OB is all about the numbers and considers pregnancy a 'condition' All that matters though is that I have a healthy baby at the end of the pregnancy!

Nice to meet some US ladies, even though I do love my UK girlies :flower:

I live deep in the heartland. We have a freestanding birthing center in my area, the rooms are larger and you get to labor, deliver, and recover all in the same room; you get offered a few more options like walking and birthing balls but they don't have a huge tub for you to labor in. The main difference is that in the hospitals you get moved to a different room for recovery and they take on higher risk patients so you see more interventions.

I've delivered both with an epidural and completely drug free. I prefer going natural, recovery is SO much easier; hopefully I can manage the pain well on my own again this time.

I'm always telling my DH the UK lingo for various pregnancy things, now! And he's using them, too, hehe.

I'm from the Northeast! MA for most of my life, except college in NYC, and DH and I settled in RI. This is my #1 and planning on being our only (but we'll see....:) ).

I go to a great doc/nurse team for my pregnancy, and recently found out they do all the birthing in their facility, so I won't be going to the hospital. I'm going to try to go as naturally as possible, but if I need epi or situations change, I'll just be happy to hold my baby at the end!

I was born and raised in California, but have lived all over the place as we are a military family. Currently we are going on our 3rd daughter she will be here in the beginning of November. We are on :cloud9: to be having our 3rd girl. It took is 10 years to conceive our 1st all natrual no fertility meds, 5 years later we still weren't conceiving my dr then put me on clomid with put any fertility testing I conceived after 3 rounds, now 3 years down the road we were looking to complete our family so we went to a fertility dr they did tests and found out my thyroid levels were off, they put me on synthroid and prescribed me with clomid and hcg injections and after 4 rounds I was pregnant with our 3rd princess. Sorry for the ramble I just wanted to tell my story. Our daughters names are Faith,Chloe and our newest will be Lilah. Thanks for reading.:flower:

From Texas! Pregnant with #3. Few weeks to go! Will be having a hospital birth as well. My husband would freak if I told him let's have baby at home in a tub. Haha.

Born and raised in the Pacific Northwest, Washington state here!!! I'm on number 2, and switched from a midwife to a dr. halfway thru this pregnancy. :)
