Any USA ladies here?? (or others who have lived in the states)

I live deep in the heartland. We have a freestanding birthing center in my area, the rooms are larger and you get to labor, deliver, and recover all in the same room; you get offered a few more options like walking and birthing balls but they don't have a huge tub for you to labor in. The main difference is that in the hospitals you get moved to a different room for recovery and they take on higher risk patients so you see more interventions.

I've delivered both with an epidural and completely drug free. I prefer going natural, recovery is SO much easier; hopefully I can manage the pain well on my own again this time.

I'm from KS too! Are you in the KC/Topeka area??

And once I get preggs I'm planning on a home birth, for which I am VERY excited!

Missouri girl here from the kc area! We're a little less than an hour away from Topeka! About 45 minutes or so!

I gave birth in a hospital with an epidural with my son and will be doing the same this time, assuming I have time. And assuming I make it due to freaking out about the damn peach recall. :dohh:

Nice! Small world! :)

Haha, peach recall??

Yeah there is a nationwide recall on peaches, nectarines, pluots, and plums for Listeria. I ate a lot of them last month and then one last Saturday. A lot of stores were affected. Trader Joes, Walmart, Sams, Costco, Wengmans (sp?), Kroger, BJ, Aldi.. those are just a few off the top of my head.

I'm in Northwestern VA and worried about the same thing. I've been eating peaches and plums from Walmart for the past month and a half. I called my Dr. but they just said watch for symptoms.

Mine said the same thing. Watch for a fever, major nausea, vomiting, and aches for the next two months. They said it would be like the flu. I am just so irritated at it. Maybe the factory should have better sanitizing procedures, since that is what caused the recall.

There are a couple things keeping me sane, but not really. The outbreak with melon in 2011 caused only one miscarriage when lots were affected and I am sure there were tons of pregnant women that ate them, Listeria is still a small risk even with recalls, there hasn't been an outbreak yet--the recall is voluntary, my husband is an engineer for butterball and said if they have a recall they would pull products from like a few weeks back so that means the fruits consumed last month might not have actually been bad at all, I only ate maybe 10 of them all together, there is some leeway between you becoming infected and the baby becoming infected so if you go in right away with symptoms, they can hopefully give you the antibiotics which would cause it to not infect the baby, washing the fruit thoroughly first is a good way to help, stuff like that.

I talked to my mom about it and she said logically, you would think there would have been at least one case confirmed by now since millions of people have consumed the fruit.

Lol, as you can see I feel strongly about this and I am terrified. There is nothing that we can do but wait since the fruit has already been consumed. I fed some to my 18 month old too, which makes me more mad.

Oh wow, yikes! I have some peaches sitting in the fridge from Aldi that are two weeks old...guess I should throw them out?

Coming a bit late to the party but I'm loving this thread!

Minnesota girl here, born and raised. Epidural LOVER doesn't begin to cover my true feelings lol. I agree with cookette that there is no medal for going naturally and it was well worth it's weight in gold as far as I'm concerned! I had no complications, fast easy labors and deliveries with no tearing/episiotomies and pretty much zero recovery time. Seriously could have run a marathon afterward. I was able to labor in a bath tub for my first two and absolutely plan to this go round too (different hospital but even better accommodations with an ACTUAL birthing "pool").

I don't know what some of you are talking about with having to throw out peaches, they never last more than a couple days in my house - they're not available here but a few months out of the year so they get gobbled up right quick. Any recalls we'd be in trouble because they'd be long gone by the time any recalls rolled around!

YES! Aldi was affected. The peaches at Aldi are weird. We had to let our sit out too to soften them up. They are so FIRM in the store. THROW THEM AWAY!

No I live in Wichita, but have family up in Lenexa and KC so we make the drive fairly often.

Tryin- I must have been in the dark, how did I not hear about this recall? Thanks so much for bringing it up, at least now I know to be watching for symptoms.

No problem busy! You will hear all about it in my journal

I am from Arizona! Pregnant with my first :) I posted in the "meetup section" to see if anyone else is from AZ a month ago, but no responses.

Whereabouts in Arizona are you? I lived most of my life there. :flower:

ok one more thing about the recall if anyone cares, read this. My mom sent it to me. seems everything should be just fine.

OK OK. Sorry OP and sorry everyone who doesn't care. Just wanted to share that last thing!

In central Kentucky here, on baby boy #3. I am planning on a hospital birth. I've had hospital births with both of my other two and epidurals, however this time I would like to go epi free- we shall see!

When are you due? I have thought about epidural free but it was just such a god send with my son. Lol. I didn't feel a thing besides like a Charlie horse type pain in the back of my legs during contractions.

Minnesota girl here. This is my second baby. The first ended in an emergency c-section, due to poor progressing and baby in wrong position. Though I tried for 48 hours to have a natural birth. I fought them as long as I could to avoid petocin as well. I was pain relief free until right before surgery. Many were surprised. Guess it was unusual. It was a hospital birth from the start, and had midwives (their shifts rotated while I was there). The hospital I chose at the time offered tubs to labor in and pools to birth in. Though the birth part has stopped for now. Something about a doctor or group of doctors saying it hasn't been fully proven to be safe!?! So they stopped offering until they get the all clear. Doesn't affect me as I don't want that. But I feel bad for the ladies that do. In mn their are quite a few midwives, some affiliated with hospitals like mine and some that are independent. Home births are offered as well. Considered that for a time, glad I didn't in the end. This birth will be a planned c-section, too scared to try a vbac. Sorry for rambling. That is my story in a nutshell. :)

Yay for another MN mama!!!!

LadySlipper, if you're comfortable enough to share I'd love to find out just how close we are!

Sure! Grew up in St Paul, now living in Plymouth. Though we only have a two bedroom house. So with baby #2 we will probably move again. I love the rural feel where we are but I do miss St Paul. :) Where are you located?

In Northern California here with baby number 2! This baby will be by planned c section due to the last being the same. Doctors advised me to, saying my pelvis is too small. I once had wanted a water birth after reading about it extensively on here, but I found out that the nearest hospital that offered it is over an hour away and I wasn't deemed a good candidate for it. Needless to say, I love reading about how different things are everywhere else. Seems so much more laid back.
