anybody got a Fiat Multipla? Or know much about cars?

I had an older shaped micra I loved it.

I agree Hun getting an older car can be a money pit and iv not heard much positives about Fiats.

If an older car is a no-go then you'll have to up the budget I'm afraid, the two do not go together.

my old car was a vw & was a K reg, so it was old!! lol
i only got rid of it a month ago as my mum gave me her old car as she wanted LO & i in a safer car with Airbags etc etc.
ide had it for 4 years & the most expensive thing ive had to replace on it were the tyres! i loved skippy!!!

so ive now got a nissan, its been reliable the last 5 yrs my mums had it, no major parts needed replacing - it was 2nd hand.

i love vw 7 seaters! i want a sharan.

how about a kia?! they seem popular now.

avoid ford - fix or repair daily/ found on rubbish dump as they are called!

xx

Totally disagree. As I said in my first post on this thread- my dad had his for 16 years until the guy doing the MOT said enough is enough- if my Dad paid for it he would probably still have it now making the grand total of 18 years. It never needed repairs apart from very minor things during the MOT and service- I think the most expensive was a clutch, but thats because he rides his clutches and even that lasted several years.

thanks ladies for all the advice.

I'll just keep on saving until I'm close to my due date and see what I can get when I've got a bit more money saved up. It won't be a lot. If I'm REALLY careful we might have £2k by then but maybe we'll find something for that price from somewhere. Auction maybe.

Cheers all x

We've got a Ford, always had one and never had any trouble. Current is a 2001 2.5 6V Mondeo AKA "The Beast" which we've owned for 3 years eith no problem. Well, taxing it isnt cheap lol!

If you maintain any car properly then it's unlikely to cause major problems.

That's the only problem with second hand cars, you never know how they have been maintained prior to you owning it. Full service history is something to look for, but also a lot of people will, when selling privately, include receipts to back up the service history.

I had a P reg ford fiesta and it worked better than most peoples cars that I know. It broke once and cost 12 to fix! x

My old Hyundai had been a cat c write off before i bought it but i never had any trouble with it and i was given copies of reciepts for all work. It didn't affect the price i was given on part ex a few years later either! Oh car at mo was a cat d at some point i think so i wouldn't let that alone put you off! As for a bigger ca i have a zafira and love it! With all seats being used i can still get buggy in but i normally have one seat down which gives plenty of boot space. There seem to be plenty about second hand...

I think its a bit redundant us all suggesting cars to be honest.

Giving examples of 'My dad, aunt or gran had so and so car for 11 yrs and it was fine' isnt really valid...

You get duff cars in all makes IMO - Its just pot luck at the end of the day.

Lol your right not every car will but I will say to anyone avoid Renaults!! As a mechanic this brand we see most of and mainly electrical faults. X

But then you get people that say that about other makes. Its all down to personal preference really.

I agree, you can counter that argument with the amount of old renaults still on the road

It totally is down to preference, and availability, and finance.

I had a skoda octavia which I had to scrap just over a year ago, it was only a 54 plate. Based on that information alone it says bad car avoid, but the truth is I would recommend the octavia a hundred times over, it was a fantastic car, one of many I have driven, just very high mileage for its age as a taxi and wasn't worth fixing any more for me. If the car had only been used for personal use and not business it would have lasted for years

I didnt wanna have to do this but: Weve had our Renault Scenic and Clio a fair few yrs now, MOT's passed with flying colours everytime and never had to take either to the garage unless for an MOT or one time when i cracked the sump on my Clio...but that was my fault and nobody else.

But hey, maybe both of ours are just a lovely excpetion ;)

Lol again as you said not all cars will be faulty. besides alotcan be down to maintainance how thecar is driven etc. but as a mechanic my opinion would be to never recommend one if a customer asked which car they should buy xx

Lol and how did you crack the sump was you boyracing over speed humps

I drove over a small island as i was leaving work, its was half a meter by half a meter tops so my car went right over it without it even touching my wheels.

That set us back £160 for part and labour.

My husband was away or he would have done it - Hes an ex mechanic ;)
