Anybody had a laparoscopy done?

Hello everyone! I had a lap; endometrial cysts in both ovaries removed, adhesions of ovaries to uterus and walls etc cleaned up and an HSG to check the tubes.

My surgeon ended up spending a couple hours longer then planned cleaning me up, so I assume it was a mess although I didn't ask what stage.

I was scared of being under anesthesia! I cried waiting for them to hook me up. I found the waiting is really the worst part and there wasn't anything to worry about!

They gave me pills or a shot (?) to take the edge off before they rolled me back, which worked fast! I remember seeing the operating room they wheeled me into, my doctor and anesthesiologist talked about McDonalds, and then I was out. I woke up wondering how they did the surgery that fast and if I had really already had it!

As far as recovery, I was very nauseous for a couple days. The first night I stayed in a reclining position on pillows and experienced no pain in my shoulder until I went to lie on my back and wow, I nearly hyperventilated from the pain. My nurses weren't happy that I wasn't lying flat, but I felt so much better and I don't think it affected my recovery. I also rocked in a rocking chair the next day to help get the gases moving which helped. Aside from general soreness, it took about a week for my energy to return.

My Doctor performing the surgery is my OBGYN, not a fertility specialist, mentioned Lupron treatment which we declined. We tried from July until now naturally, and we are about to begin IUI's with Femara, Oviderel, and progesterone supplements next month.

Upon speaking to the FS (and reading up on endo since then) I'm very thankful we did not do the Lupron! If I could change anything, I would have sought treatment in the first six months, since my endo symptoms have started returning... Live and learn!

Sex after surgery? My doctor cut us off for two weeks. I wasn't out from under medications to have the wherewithal to pee on my own that night, the next day my abs were useless and I still needed help getting off the couch. I would try to get a BD in as close to surgery as possible!

Wow, looks like they did a good clean up in your tubes rocko, that's fab! Apparently you're a lot more fertile in the months after. Just goes to show that all doctors have different opinions on everything - I rang the clinic today to ask about sex after the surgery. I explained the I expected to OV within a day or 2 and they told me to go ahead, that they encourage it! So I suppose now it depends on just how sore I am afterwards :-)

I had my lap done November 2013 and it was a pretty easy surgery. I was totally freaked out before though because I had never had surgery before. I had it done Friday morning and was back at work Monday. I did not however feel much like having sex afterwards. I wasn't sore exactly but I was tender and really tired. I slept for 2 days straight basically.

I just wanted to update:
Had the lap. Right tube was slightly blocked, but was cleared successfully and dye ran through. However!
I apparently have a unicornuate uterus, as per discovered within the hystroscapy.
Essentially, it means I have a half sized uterus with only my right tube Nd ovary.
Shocked as anything!
I'm still quite numb and insure as to what this means but the laproscapy was a breeze.

I had never heard of that so I googled it and from what I read you will still be able to have a baby so keep thinking positive thoughts. It's just one more hurdle to jump over. I wish you all the luck in the world! Hopefully your doctor will come up with a good plan for you!!

I'm hoping it happens soon so we can stop getting bad news and worrying all the time. We have been ready for two years for this. The last appt with the fs, she told me I'll probably need ivf. So, that's awesome.

Wishing you all the best, ladies. Although hearing your stories helps, it brought me to tears too. I have my sonohystogram next week so they can check that I have no blocks in my tube. I guess after that it's the laparoscopy. I'm nervous about my obgyn doing this surgery on me as when I first went in 14 yrs ago for surgery to remove a large cyst (8cm) he ended up removing the whole ovary. This cyst on my one remaining ovary is 5+cm. There is 0 room for error this time. So I'm nervous. What kind of scaring happens after laparoscopy ? Where? My doc had said it only takes abt a week to recover. I'd love to hear some success stories of women getting the BFP after laparoscopy As of right now I'm so nervous and worried.

I had lap Nov 2012 and again Nov 2013. We didn't TTC until January this year and bfp our second cycle :flower:

My first lap was actually to remove an avocado-sized fibroid in bedded in my uterus. Second lap was because I was still having pain, and lap revealed stage 2 endo, several new fibroids, and a blocked left tube. They think the endo was still microscopic at the first surgery and was actually the culprit all along.

My 2nd lap was a much faster recovery than the first, oddly. Probably because the fibroid was so large.

I would encourage any woman scared about the surgery that it'd truly not that bad, the air pockets are uncomfortable but really a pretty fast recovery.

Thankyou. Hopefully you'll get a sticky bean soon as a result. I'm So scared. A lot of my hopes are pinned on getting this don't to hopefully get pregnantn

my husband and i have been trying for 2 years without success, and i go in april 10th for my lap. im also hoping to get my bean from it! Good luck to you!!!

I had Lap in november 2012 and had no BFP at all, if anything I think thats what caused my irregular cycles

as for the scars I have 3:

2 on the left hand side below the knicker line (which healed quite well) and 1 in the center of my stomach just below my belly button unfortunately this one scarred quite horribly and now looks like my belly button has a hemorrhoid

I had a lap and a hysterscopy in November 2013 where the doctor found lots of adhesions in my tubes and a chocolate cyst (which they drained). He managed to push dye through my tubes but only just. I was terrified about going under surgery but it was fine, I promise. I woke up in some discomfort but it was quickly remedied with some drugs. The recovery too was uncomfortable but not painful. I was given 2 weeks off but I was back at work in a week.
It was the best thing I ever did. My mid-cycle bleeding significantly reduced and I had less menstrual pain. Even better, I got my first ever bfp 3 months later after over 4 years of trying. I am very lucky and thankful that it worked. Whatever the outcome, having some answers is worth it.
Good luck and sending lots of baby dust xxx
