These are possibly my favourite books ever (apart from maybe the Thursday Next series) and I have just finished re-reading them again. I actually finished the last one the day after I found out I was pregnant and could not stop crying - such beautifully written books (albeit for a more "male" audience) with such truly amazing characters, the ending is so bloody unfair, and I cry each time just because I'll miss the characters so much. Derfel, Arthur, Galahad, Culwyhch, Ceinwyn and Merlin are absolutely amazing, and Lancelot is such an utter *******. I highly recommend them. The books are very gory, I can't deny it, but the characterisation is so beautiful, they are so well written I almost wish I was there (almost - the books and depictions of battle are very scary!)
