Anyone else all of a sudden craving sugar?

All my pregnancy I've done really well, had a really good diet, not too much junk and just generally being healthy.

In the last few days.... All I want is food. And more specifically: sugary food. Cake, chocolate, biscuits, sweets, anything I don't mind.

I'm really conscious that I don't want to gain too much weight, but at the same time I'm desperate for sugar. And one bar doesn't cut it, I want a lot of it and and I want it all the time.

Anyone else like this at the moment?
 
It might just be your body is needing a little extra energy at the moment or something. I normally don't like sweet things at all (when I'm not pregnant, like I never eat cake and just don't like it), but I've actually preferred sweet to savoury things since I've been pregnant. So I've been eating a lot more fruit, cereal, etc. which tend to be sweeter as well as cakes, cookies, etc. Assuming you aren't diabetic, it's totally fine though. I mean, don't eat a whole cake at one go, but if you really feel like you need a milkshake and some biscuits or a piece of cake or two one day, then enjoy them. They aren't necessarily going to make you gain anymore weight than anything else as long as you aren't overeating in general. Like I said, I've eaten way more sweet and sugary things my whole pregnancy compared to my normal diet and I've only put on 15 lbs total at 36 weeks (and that's without trying to watch my weight or restrict my diet in anyway, if I'm hungry, I eat). Just listen to your body, eat healthy when you can, but enjoy yourself too. If you want to try to avoid junk food (cookies and cakes and ice cream), try finding some healthier sweet things that work for you, like fruit, dried fruit, yogurt, etc.
 
Yes me! at about 28 weeks it started.

I am having four bars of chocolate a day as a minimum and then having biscuits and things too!!! :nope: I just can't make the craving go away I just keep thinking about it all the time and have to stop myself from getting another bar :blush:

I am super thirsty all the time too that started about the same time. Are you?

Don't know what it is. I wasn't like this with my little girl.
 
YES!!!! I'm glad other people are the same way. This just started for me last week. I've had to have cake, cookies, and candy around the house constantly. It's crazy!
 
ive dreamt about eating either cake or donuts every single night since around the beginning of 2nd tri
 
The last month I've been a sweets and carb monster... the idea of eating a salad makes me want to gag! LOL

My secret to survival have has been fruit smoothies, apples and carrots. (Natural sugars)... but I've eaten many arrowroot cookies, choco chip cookies, frozen yogurt... ;)
 
Haha yes!!!! Love love love chocolate right now! Wispa, twirl, crunchie Cadbury egg mmmmmmm!!!!
 
I've been craving sugar my entire pregnancy! My midwife gave me a great tip for it though.

Cut up a good variety of fruit place it in a bowl and sprinkle sugar over it!

Honestly it is so yummy and sorts the cravings out immediately!
 
Yes!! Mines just started in the last 2 weeks!! and then my face broke out :( But I CAN'T STOP EATING CHOCOLATE!! lol!!! i've done so well with weight gain, as i started off heavier...and then its like this last month BAM! 10 lbs!!
 
Yes me! Which has been really weird because I have never had a sweet tooth before being pregnant. These last couple of weeks it's gotten worse, give me a chocolate bar and I practically inhale it!

I've tried to balance it out though by eating lots of sweet fruit to keep the cravings at bay.
 
I never usually have sugar in my cup of tea , but recently I want a sugar in my tea!!
 
Isn't the old wives tale that its a girl if you crave sugar?!

We are team yellow so I will be interested to see if this is true for us!
 
I'm not inhaling candy bars, but for the past week I have been making myself little sundaes. Throughout I have been eating tons of veggies and fruits-no desire to have anything sweet other than fruit. I haven't had any cravings either. I am not sure that my ice cream is a craving-it's just kind of there so I eat it at this point. I have been breaking out like crazy for a couple weeks and it hasn't happened since I was in first trimester. We are having a girl, so maybe that's it?
 
HAHAHAHA!! I just ate three spoonfuls of whipped cream! I never do that but I saw the tub and I had to have some.
 
My OH has stocked up the cupboards with chocolate and biscuits so he won't get sent out at stupid o'clock to by some. Big mistake! It won't last the day. Bless him for trying though.
 
I am so glad that I'm not the only person who has this affliction! :) it's awful! There's biscuits at work and I'm at risk of suddenly snapping and raiding the tin!!

I'm having a lot of fruit and yogurt to try to combat it, but for the last 3 days I've had some type of cake/chocolate every single day. Argh! :)
 
I've also noticed my diet has been significantly worse in the last week or so. I think I need the energy... If I eat before I'm hungry I'm ok and not craving naughty stuff but I have really noticed that if I let myself get hungry (it comes on quick in about half hour) I NEED TO EAT NAUGHTY FOOD RIGHT NOW!!

In fact I had 2 bowls of cereal this morning at 10 and now I'm just starting to get super hungry so I'd better go and find something healthy before I dive into sugar again. I was craving full fat coke last week but that's gone now fortunately and I'm back on diet lemonade.

They say you need an extra 200 calories a day in the 3rd trimester because your baby is putting on fat rather than growing bones etc. I wonder if that has something to do with the fact I'm craving high energy food??
