This is my first baby, I started noticing braxton hicks around week 20 and in the last couple of weeks I have noticed them getting incredibly strong. For the last couple of days I have been getting them very frequently, sometimes every 2 minutes for hours on end. Right now they are every 3 minutes, bit of back ache and they are so strong they are uncomfortable. My midwife isn't concerned, I've been tested a week or so ago for pre-term labour which I wasn't in, and no one medical seems to think that it's a big deal.....yet EVERYTHING I read says they shouldn't be frequent and they should be random. I'm not dehydrated, they don't go away when I walk or lay down but they do get worse if I lay on my back.

What the hell is going on??

im exactly the same dont know whats goin on...................

im the same i have them quite alot, im defo not dehydrated and they seem to be worse in the evening , i have the mw again on wednesday so i will ask her again but she also isnt bothered by the amount i have!

Got a midwife appointment tomorrow...I will once again ask her! She's bloody useless though.

ha! so is mine! she wants me in and out in like 5 mins! everytime i tell her something that worrys me she just says yes its fine and thats it!

I get them all day everyday, strong in the evenings, so much so I think ooooo maybe this is it! Then I go to bed and nothing! So frustrating!!!

I got loads last night, regular and painful but had them before and MW wasn't bothered :(

Mine like to rush me through too, it's wee test, measure FH and ask if I'm ok. If so that's it I'm shipped out less than 5 mins after being called in!

I get a lot of BHs too, sometimes they are random, sometimes they become more regular. They definitely happen more often when I am tired though and get worse if I am on my feet a lot. Hopefully it means we will have quick labours as we are so well practiced!

mine are getting painful too, and frequent, ill have them all day everyday and sometimes ill have 3-4 in 10mins but then theyll go and come back 20mins later, if you are really worried go to hosp and get checked out.xx

I get them all the time!! Please, if you find yourself in pain, even a little bit, go to the hospital. Two weeks ago I was in absolute agony for days, i went to the hospital after researching what it could be on line and on here. The second i walked in i was thrown on a wheelchair and told i was in labour.. turns out i actually was!! I had to stay in hospital for the weekend in a lot of pain and was given two steroid injections within 24 hours to strengthn the babys lungs.. Luckily my contractions slowed down, stopped being so painful and after being checked over and observed it was safe to go home. I tend to get the contractions every day, but PLEASE dont leave it too late because it could be worse than you think!!

Thanks people :hugs:

Same as! I have to ring the delivery suite to get a proper answer. Community midwives are friggin useless x

Jessica, I strongly agree with the above poster. My good friend had her third baby on Weds and thought she was having braxton hicks too! She left it so long that when she got to the hospital she was already 8cm's dilated, and she wasn't due until May!

You say you were tested for labour the other day - but things can change so quickly with these things. Not trying to scare you, but please be on the safe side x

I had a foetal fibronectin test because I was having so many and I was hooked up to a foetal heartbeat and contraction monitor....I was told I wasn't at risk of going into labour within the week and that was it! Packed off home without being told anything.
I was signed off my last 7 shifts at work because the doctor said it wasn't normal to have more than 6 an hour, but even she just shrugged and told me to take it easy.

Maybe tmi but if I have sex and orgasm...il have contractions for several hours at 2 minutes apart lasting 30-45 seconds each. Huge braxton hicks where my entire stomach tenses and pokes out and squeeeeeeeeeezes. Baby doesn't like it, gives her hiccups!

Hopefully il have a quick labour, my uterus seems to be exceedingly good at contracting!!

Hmm well, at least you have the MW tomorrow.... I hope she can give you a reason why it's happening! Btw I get them after after orgasm too, but not for that long, lol. Good luck with your appointment!

I had this from 34 weeks to about a week ago and was diagnosed with an irritable uterus... ugh hated it... now i'm having contractions..painful and different feeling and i'm dilating more but still soooo frustrating..lost my plug, had my show and now just waiting for contractions to come closer together :( hate this part of waiting and wondering when it will all be done

also mine were 2 minutes apart for almost a month! Ridiculous..was in the hospital twice and given meds to stop them but they didn't work...

ive been having them alot too. i went to hospital last night and was having contractions every 3 mins and was dialted 1cm. they gave me meds to stop the labor. they monitored me for over 5 hours and still having them. i even had some more today. they are hoping i wait 2 more weeks atleast before it gets worse.

My midwife cancelled!!! It was meant to be a home visit and she apparently has a clinic to attend. So great...my '36' week appointment will probably be done when I am 37 or 38 weeks!
