Does anyone else have sore gums?

I'm 12 weeks today and my gums are driving me mad. For the last few days they've felt really sore and I don't know why. They look like they're pretty normal too me

Now I know that pregnancy can cause bleeding gums but can it make them sore too? I don't remember if I had it when I was pregnant with my daughter or not

I believe they call it Pregnancy Gingavitis. I was diagnosed with it when I went in for my cleaning.

Floss everyday, and obviously brush. My dentist gave me a special flouride toothpaste that is supposed to help but he said that it wont get better until after the hormones regulate (aka, after birth)... yieks

I think pregnant ladies in the UK get free dental care on the NHS. I'm sure I read it in the book my midwife gave me. I think it's because of things like this...I have vague memories of being given Corsodyl when I was pregnant with my son 8 years ago for bleeding gums!

Vague I know but worth checking out :)

You have to be really cautious about your gums and dental care in pregnancy. I'd definitely make an appointment with the dentist.

Any infection in your mouth is very dangerous and if you're gums are "weak" you're more likely to get one.

my teeth were really sore when i first got preg..dentist told me to brush and floss regularly and to use sensodyne tooth paste

My gums bleed and were sore the whole way through my last pregnancy. They've started again already and I'm only a few weeks in!

My dentist told me to stop using an electric toothbrush (I use an incredibly soft manual one now) and to stop flossing because it can damage the gums when they're that soft. Someone above has given different advice so I'd suggest speaking to your own dentist as you need to make sure there's no infection. Last time I started using corsodyl straight away but the dentist stopped me because it was unnecessary in my case.

My gums are not bleeding but they are sore, i just brush with a more gentle toothbrush these days.

The joys eh? x

Thanks ladies. I think it's a good idea to get checked for infection as they're really hurting today.

I'll make an appointment
