This will be baby no 3 and I never had to have this test with my other two. I was classed as border line over weight. My bmi was 30 at my booking appointment, then two weeks later I had lost almost a stone due to sickness and my bmi went down to 26 so was the right weight for my height. I have since kept the weight off. Should I be worried about diabetes?

I don't really know what's involved with having diabetes and how different your pregnancy is. My test isn't until September and I'll be around 25 weeks then. I'd of thought if I didn't get it the first two times is this time likely to be different. Or am I just been sent for this cause I was a little over weight but now I'm not.

Sorry for all the questions x

I'm going in for my second one next week. The first time I had to take it they said it was because of my BMI, but I think some places or doctors do it regardless of BMI to be safe. I had my first one around 16 weeks.

I think the risk of getting gestational diabetes goes up if you're overweight, but there's always a risk. I wouldn't worry too much myself.

This is my first one though, so other than that I don't have any past experiences.

Hope everything goes fine for you, I'm sure they will though! :flower:

Thanks for your reply. From looking on the net they tend to keep a closer eye on babies weight. Can't see me getting it as I'm not as heavy as I was at that appointment x

I don't know where you are located, but here everyone has it done between 26 and 28 weeks. Your risk for it does increase with a higher bmi, but honestly the only people I've been around in real life that actually got gestational diabetes were quite small to start with. So I don't know that size has as much to do with risk.

I have mine booked due to my mum has diabetes and puts me in the at risk group. Don't worry to much I had same with daughter

I have mine next week at 28weeks due to my BMI. 42. I had one in my last pregnancy too and it was foul eurgh I had to drink 2pints of lucozade. Fortunately I escaped diabetes last time round!

X

It does make you feel yuck. Mine is next week. Last pregnancy when had it I nearly fainted but was not diabetic

I'm meant to have one as my dad has diabetes. I declined with my last three pregnancies as my BMI is normal and I didn't gain huge amounts of weight. I've not decided yet whether to have it or not this time around...

I have to go for one at 25 weeks as my parents were both diabetic which puts me at high risk. So not looking forward to fasting lol!

I failed my 1 hour one, now I have to a 3 hour fasting test. My blood is drawn every hour after I drink the terrible sugar punch. :( Not looking forward to that. Plus side is that I have a scan that day, so she'll be super active.

I'm in the US and here my dr orders it done (unless you decline) between 26-28 weeks. I know women with absolutely no risk factors (normal BMI, normal weight gain, no family history of GD or diabetes, etc.) who have ended up testing positive for gestational diabetes. My dr said that GD needs to be tested for because you can be symptom-less and still have it. It's not that bad. They make you drink the sugar drink and then you get a blood draw done an hour later. I scheduled mine around an appt so I drank the juice, went to my dr appt, and then went back to the lab for the blood draw.

I'm having it on Wednesday because my sister is diabetic. I've had it with ds1 and2 as well and didn't have GD either times. The worst thing is that it's boring waiting around. I didn't mind the drink though!

I had my one hour one done at around 22 weeks due to diabetes running on both sides of my family. They wanted to do it early to make sure I was ok. Passed :) where im from, I believe everyone does it unless you opt out so I wouldn't worry too much

I had it with dd as ds was 10lb 14oz. It was awful and i felt terrible the next day too. Will have to have it again this time as dd was 9lb 3.5oz
PS i didn't gave gd, I just grow big babies!

Hiya, i have the test next Monday when I will be 24 wks (NHS, Northern Ireland). I asked to get it as bmi was 30 when I got bfp and Ive put on a stone since then. Im hoping I get all clear but have been eating the chocs (as well as healthy food) in this pregnancy. You have to fast from night before, so luckily my apt is first thing. Will let you know how it goes. Two friends who had babies this yr had GD - I think one was able to manage it by diet alone & the other one was on daily insulin.

Best wishes for your pregnancy x

I've got mine 2 weeks today. Does anyone know if you can still develop GTT if you don't have any glucose in your urine?

I've been called. They took my 'pre-pregnancy' weigot as that they took at my 8 week appoint end, and to keep the edge off the nausea I'd been snacking non-stop. As a consequence at 8 weeks my bmi then came up as 30. I think some hospitals just want the complete picture. I don't see the hard, in them doing it, although is annoying as I have chosen a hospital further away and I'm already going on for extra meetings and scans as am participating in a vitamin d trial. Lots of time being spent as hospital as a result but I guess work can't really comment, if they've called me in for another test then I should go!

I had one at 16 weeks due to high bmi and passed it. Have another at 28 weeks, I'm not too worried x

I'm having mine next week, I had one with my DD aswell. Both our mums have type 2 diabetes and my BMI is over 30 so it was pretty much a given. It's not so bad, I passed with no probs last time so fc for the same this time :flower:

Is it actually Lucozade that you drink? I've read this before and I'm a bit peeved by it, I avoid caffeine completely, and drinking a shit-ton of Lucozade is going to give me a huge caffeine spike, which I can't imagine is healthy.

I know it won't do any long term damage but the principle of them telling us to keep an eye on it then feeding us a load of caffeine-laden Lucozade is pretty hypocritical.
