I had the test with my previous pregnancy and likely will with this one too. Gestational diabetes occurs in all different types of women. I am very slender, very health conscious and was still borderline diabetic during my pregnancy. As a PP mentioned you can have absolutely no risk factors and still get it.
As far as diet is concerned when you have GD, they tell you to stay away from sugar and reduce carbs in your diet. The hope is that you won't deliver a very large baby
