anyone else planning for a home birth ?

just wondering if there is anyone else planning for a home birth so we can all share our thoughts and idea's and support eachother in our decision ?

We are putting our house on the market so will hopefully be in a house more cozy than this one.

I want a water birth and a friend has told me that you dont have to buy one of these expensive birthing pools but a large swimming pool with an inflatable bottom will do the trick (although I can see Ellsa wanting to swim in it! just its just a maybe at the moment)

Im feeling pretty negative though as I went 2 weeks overdue with Ella and have the feeling I will do again! Also I had a vontouse and episiotomy when I had Ella so I will have to discuss with consultant if this will be a problem or not...but as of now thats our plans.

Im not preggo yet... but i always thought i wanted a water birth for my first baby.... But then some people have told me dont count on it considering its my first baby and all

I'm planning on having a home birth too!!!

I have 2 children aged 12 and 9 - with both I had drug free and quick labours with no intervention so am hoping to get support for a home birth this time. Only my age may count against me (37). However - if my pregnancy is good and complication free then I will probably insist!!!!!

My sister had her second child last June - her first was born in hospital and she had an induction and an epidural. Amelia was born at home after a 7 hour labour. I was there as her birthing partner (in addition to her husband!!) and it was the most lovely calm experience.

She hired a birthing pool which her other half couldnt get warm enough - those things take LOADS of water!!!! And in any event she didnt want to move from the bedroom and gave birth on hands and knees!!

Be lovely to share ideas and have someone else to chat with about it!

I am planning a home birth. Being in the US I chose to have a midwife for my care instead of an OB/GYN. Something which pissed my OB off, resulting in a certified letter where she basically dumped me from her service till I am no longer using the midwife. Oh well, fuck her. My midwife has been doing this for over 33 years, has delivered over 2000 babies. I totally trust her. I get loving care from her, and actually feel like a person instead of a patient.

I am halfway through Ina May Gaskin's book, and will be reading Childbirth from Within next.

I, too, am planning a home-water birth. I was just going to try using my parents 2-person spa bath. Would that be too small? I am also lookig into hypnobirthing, i've heard good things bout it.
My mum is a midwife so im lucky that I won't have to hire a midwife. Also doubley lucky that she is a lactation consultant as well.

Samantha the book your reading now is that all about home birth ? How have you found it ? I'll have to invest in one I think!

Im umming and ahhing about a water birth at the moment especially with a toddler...I think I'd be the same as your sister Tashy and not want to move from the bed lol. I think it would be so much more calm and peaceful.....pain relief doesnt bother me...I had gas and air and TENS machine with 1st so I plan to use the same.

I was thinking about a home birth but I'm not sure because it's my first and I don't even know where I'll be living at the time as we're planning on moving. I think I'd be too worried about complications but at the same time I'd be happy it would keep me away from pain relief and I could give birth in the bath which to me seems the most comfortable place. It wouldn't be too bad where I live now but I'd be worried if there were complications, we aren't that close to the hospital.

Ohh I wish I could have a homebirth. I love the idea but I've had high-risk pregnancies and wasn't allowed to give birth at home. I've read soooo many birth stories involving hypnobirthing, homebirths, water births, even unassisted childbirth.

I always find hospital births with lots of intervention so sad, including my own births, specialy the first one. I'm 100% sure that if I had been at home I could have listened to my body and the whole ordeal wouldn't have been so traumatic.

So, I have homebirth-envy You must post your birth stories when you're done, I'm really excited to read them

Lauz, The Ina May book, I can't remember how i heard about it, I just rememeber when I saw it, I knew I needed to read it. The births are mainly at the birthing center that is at The Farm, which is a commune where Ina May Gaskin practices, but there is a home environment. There are special birthing cabins, so people giving birth usually move in a bout a month before and stay till after their baby arrives.

Childbirth from within, is more of a birthing method, but there are also home birth stories through out.

The birthing culture in America is just crazy now. It seems to me the more I read, and research, it is based on making women afraid and telling them there is no way they are capable of giving birth without the help of the medical community. Sadly, women have bought it hook line and sinker. It has become a billion dollar industry in America, and that is just crazy to me. Don't get me wrong, there are plenty of reasons things that can go wrong, and you have to be in hospital, but overall I don't think women are given the chance to allow their bodys to do what it needs to do.

Hiya. My sis in law had a home birth, and she said it was the best birth she's had. she was totally calm, and just went inside herself, whereas in hospital she felt really uptight, and the labour was longer. She had a large deep blow up pool from Argos !! Her eldest, 4 at the time, even got in and had a soak with her in the early stages. I'd love to try a home birth, but I need my epidural !!!!!! tee hee xx

keep the stories coming! It's making me more and more for it....it must be so much calmer and more of a comfort to be at home and after the birth to have my creature comforts around me and can snuggle up in my own bed with my family!

I'm just wondering if it would be alright to have a baby in a 2 person spa bath. I probably wouldn't put the jets on, but just in terms of size? I've heard that ur wider if you stand or kneel. How about squatting?

i had a home birth- fanastic couldnt fault it . not had water birth tho, but u can hire pools in uk. if you need any help/advice jus ask. hope you get the birth you wish 4 and good luck

Gosh you're all so lucky being able to have homebirths - it's really difficult to arrange in Ireland...and if you don't book the midwife as soon as you get that positive test she might be booked out....
