Ok so I am almost 30 weeks now and so far have put on just over 2 stone. Im not supposed to be starting maternity leave for another 5 weeks but my back is constantly aching when Im sat at work. Its doesnt matter how I sit or if I stuff cushions behind me or waterbottles etc - it just hurts and I cannot get comfy.

I really dont want to have to take my maternity leave early as I need the money from my normal pay right now but I dont know what to do. Can the dr or midwife do anything about this or do I just have to suck it up and get on with it?

I am too, really bad as I sit here at work. Take plenty of walks during the day.

Not sure if painkillers work but my dr yesterday told me not to worry about taking paracetamol now regularly as baby is fully developed.

I get really bad backache too, have had it for weeks and it's certainly not been helped by sitting at a desk all day. Luckily for me I'm finishing work on Fri as will be 36 weeks - the last few weeks have dragged though, I've been so miserable and uncomfortable at work, so i can feel your pain.

I think a lot of it is down to posture - have you got a birthing ball/gym ball? Try sitting on it for half an hour every night - that's what I've been doing (rather than slouching on the sofa), it's hard to tell whether it's made my back any better, certainly think it's stopped it from getting any worse though.

I would definitely speak to your m/w or doc, they might suggest some gentle exercises you can do. I go to yoga once a week and I think that helps.

Good luck xx

Me! I feel like I pulled something in my back...not sure exactly what's going on, but it's excruciating! It's my upper back, right below my shoulder blade. If I lay down or sit back it feels okay, but standing and walking is very, very painful. I just had 4 days off of work, and lay down on the couch for most of it, hoping that would help...it did, but I'm back at work and it's already starting to hurt again.
My doctor doesn't want to give me anything for it unless she absolutely HAS to. :(

Hi

I am exactly the same! i am 32 weeks and have had pain for weeks, i have been to physio, had accupuncture, bought a fit ball and none of it has worked, i was also off work last week and it helped as i could walk around the house for a bit then when it got bad i could lie on my side with my big pillow, but now i am back at work and the pain is back and even worse than before!! i am due to finish in 3 weeks but dont think i will be able to make it as i am in so much pain, i am at the docs on Thursday and going to ask for her to sign me off for 2 weeks then i will use the rest of my hols until my maternity leave starts.

I really wanted to control my weight during the pregnancy but cant walk anywhere for more than 30minutes! its so depressing :(

the baby is breech so dont think that is helping hope that the next 7 weeks goes quick!

I had this at work too, it's really poo. It's not actually got any better since iv started my leave. You should try walking around every so often, you could take paracetamol but it's not really the best relying on that every day. You could get one of those hot water bottles that you heat up in the microwave if you have a microwave at work?

xx

Yeah, I just take a stroll round the office every hour or so. That combined with visits to the loo means I'm up on my feet every half hour. I also stand up and do the pelvic circular bum roll standing in front of my desk when I'm reading a report or something so that helps with the backaches. I'm hoping to work till week 40 if possible to max out on the maternity leave.

Thanks everyone - good to know Im not alone although now I feel bad that you are all enduring the same pain!! I'm worried about getting the doctor to sign me off in case work decide to start my maternity leave early which I think they are entitled to do but not sure. I just hope its not going to get any worse because I cant imagine another 27 days sat at my desk like this!!!
I go to yoga every week and that seems to help at the time but then once I am back at my desk or on the sofa it just hurts again! And to top it all off I now have the biggest swollen feet - DOH!!!!!

Ah I know how you feel, my back has been hurting for a while now. I didn't get this in my other pregnancies - perhaps as I'm slightly older now ? No idea. Anyway, I have a wheat bag (the hot microwave bags) helps so so much! actually bandaged it to my back the other day!!
xxxxx

hehe.. i'm actually reading this with one of those heat bags on my back right now ! You don't have to dish out $ to buy them. I just fill a clean sock up with rice and bung it in the microwave - works a treat !

i was struggling at work with tieredness and a sore back i work in a nursery tho but i went to the doctors an the doctors signed me on the sick untill my mat leave stats i know its a loss in money but i am not loosing the time i have with the little one after shes here

so the dr will sign you off for back ache? mine is getting worse and worse this week. As soon as I am sat in this stupid seat at work. bring on the weekend.

And wow, to the lady working until 40weeks!
