Hi ladies,

Just wondering if anyone else has a baby that has a really big head in comparison to length/weight?

I just recieved a copy of LO's review letter from the consultant to the GP and it said LO's weight is just below 2nd centile corrected and head circumference around 91st centile:wacko:

I mentioned this to the consultant at the time (although i didn't realise his head was THAT much bigger, it does look big but not huge!) anyway he said it was fine and had followed its centile from when he was 6 weeks only it hasn't as when i got home i looked in his red book and it was around 9th centile at birth can't remember exactly what it was at 6 weeks now but it was definitely under 25th centile.

He had a feel of his head and said it was fine but i just cant help thinking that there could be something wrong:nope:

when my lo had her checks at 8 weeks she was the same, she was on 50th centile for weight, 25th for height and 91st for her head and the gp even said" wow she has a big head" like thanks!!!! but thats all she said and didnt say if its anything to be concerned over so im not worrying as she looks perfect to me x

bella's 50th for height, 25-50th for weight & 98th + for head circumference. she just has a big head!
xx

both my boys were like this Zander is around 30-40 percentile on height and weight and around 99th for his HC but their dad has a really big head so that would be why  they had big heads from birth though I even had a Dr say his measurement must be wrong that it was to big and check it to find it was right with my oldest son  so far no problems from it and they are 7yrs and 22 months :)

LO's weight cant be recorded on the page, off the centiles for height and head circumference.

My hubby has a stupidly big head but he is 6ft 7.

My LO towers over some 2 and 3 year old and the head size is quite striking when together.

I think the main thing is that its such a HUGE difference he is also below 0.4th for length corrected so he is a tiny LO with a 91st centile corrected head!

It is reassuring to know he is not the only with a big head but it doesn't seem like anyone else's LO's have as big a difference between measurements. Would any of you be worried if the difference was even bigger like my LO.

Has she got a really big head or is she in propertion as she is big for everything? I don't think it would bother me if he was big on all measurements its just that hes tiny otherwise

Yeah-she has.

At the top of the page in the red book. Up until now she has reminded me of a lollipop. I am mean:haha:

Either i am getting used to it or she is "growing" into it.

My GP and paediatrician said i had nothing to worry about when i asked about it at 4mths.

My LO was a month early so was low down on the charts for weight and length at the beginning. At 10 weeks his weight was on the 0.4th and height on the 9th but his head has always been on the 91st. At first I thought it was odd but I think it's quite common with early babies as the last month of pregnancy is mostly for the baby to gain weight but the majority of the brain development has happened already.

He had his 12 month review the other day and was on the 20th for weight, 35th for height and head still on the 91st LOL.

x

Madison is below 2nd percentile for weight and length but her head is in the 60th percentile.

Her Dr says she must have lots of brains in there.

I think that most babies have kind of watermelon heads...LOL

Aw thankyou everyone, seems like theres quite a few babies with big heads out there! lol x

All mine have jumped at least one centile in HC and my second youngests head was always off the top of the chart even though after a few months he was on the 50th or under for both length and weight, he is 4 now and his HC is 56, the same as many adults, his head growth has slowed down dramatically though and for once his head looks smaller than his bigger brothers'. Big heads run in both mine and OHs family so its not surprising really. xx

Both my girls have 91st centile heads. Makes buying hats annoying!

My 4 year old wears 8-12 year minimum hats or hats for adults, OH cannot fit any hats except very stretchy beanie types xx

Head sizes have a lot to do with genetics, so if you or your OH have big heads, then it is no surprise your baby does as well. My daughter has a head circumference in the 90+ percentile, while her height and weight are in the 10th percentile. Doctors said since my husband has a big head, this is the reason. Really nothing to worry about.

Hun I sent you a private message re this, my son is nearly 12m he has a large head in proportion to the rest of him and I was wondering how your lo is now? My son is 98th centile for HC, 25th for weight and below 0.4th for length.
