Since last week my heart has been racing really fast early in the moring after breakfast, then by lunchtime it would have settled down. But the last couple of mornings instead of my heart racing its started skipping beats.

This goes on for most of the day and only starts to subside in the evening time. My heart will flutter and skip beats at least every 20 seconds, for a few minutes. Then the skipped beats will get slowly further apart, until eventually it stops hours later.

Its really worrying me and I can't find anything about it in my pg books...

Also on Thursday, Friday and Saturday i had been feeling little my baby move for the first time which was so exciting. But yesterday and today I've not felt LO move at all.

I don't want to start freaking out yet, but i can't help but worry. Have any of you ladies had this too??

I have times where I feel my heart racing and it almost feels like I cant catch a breath. I cannot relate it to any paticular time in the day though. I'm sure its pretty normal.

Im expecting twins and I only started feeling them at 19 weeks, yesterday I hardly felt anything at all, while today I'm getting kicked around :D :D I think around 28/30 week thats when we hav to worry about how much babies are moving

I read in my pregnancy books and on websites that it is quite normal as we need to pump 20% more blood through our system to help our little bubas. I'm going to my doctor next Monday and will ask her more about it as I get the same.

Thanks Lully, I hope it passes! Its an awful sensation.

Yes I'm hoping its just cos of the increased blood volume. Still its really unsettling.

If you remember to ask your doc, let me know what she says! I am not in with my doc for another 5 weeks as just had an apmt last week. And forgot to ask about my heart racing/flutters. :dohh: From now on I'm keeping a pregnancy diary.

Hiya,
This happened to me at a very similar time to you - 18 weeks I think.
I was on holiday and was really worried that something was going horridly wrong with my heart - I am the most paranoid person ever about medical stuff
One night it seemed to do it loads and I was convinved I was going to end up in hospital on hols!
Anyway, I told hubby about it and as soon as I stopped panicing it seemed to settle down.
I'm in thrid tri now and still get it sometimes but try not to worry as am sure the other ladies are right about it being to do with the extra work involved in baby growing.
All the best :hugs:

I'm sure I read somewhere that it's not actually skipping a beat, it's doing an extra beat to cope with the extra blood flow, it does feel like it's skipping a beat though, it happened to me and it's scary. It also happens to menopausal women too, something to do with lack of oestrogen and high progesterone. I don't think it's a cause for concern although it does make u panic when it's happening x x

Palpitations are very normal during pregnancy. Your heart is working overtime to circulate all the new blood, plus anxiety is high during pregnancy. I know mine certainly is and it causes my heart to race and flutter and feel blah overall. Hope you feel better soon!

I have had heart palpitations, mostly they come at night for me, and very scary!

I started taking a calcium/magnesium supplement and that seemed to help it!

I get heart palpitations with pregnancy. My OB told me it was quite common with pregnant women because our hearts are working so much harder for the baby. Drinking lots of water and taking a calcium/magnesium supplement will help. GL :)

Thanks to the OP for posting this, ive been getting the same too :flower:

Mine come at night too, although they may come at other times, mayby its only when im sat resting I notice them?

Its interesting (& good) That you say calcium/magnesium supplements help, where did you find that out, if you dont mind me asking :hugs: I will defo give that a try, unless its already in my pregnacare tablets? *runs off to check packet!*

Well thank you all so much!! I am so much more relieved to know that this is normal.

I'm going to take those tips of drinking more water, and will look into the calcium/magnesium supplements.

xx

Just wanted to pop in and say I get these quite often too. They're extremely unsettling as I'll even get them when I'm sitting/ laying down ... so it's not like I can just "relax" more to make them go away!

I have mentioned to my doctor on 2 visits because they're just so frightening and she keeps saying their normal and nothing to worry about. (On a separate note, last month I had an echocardiogram of my heart to check a murmur and everything came back fine... so I guess she's right that it's normal!)

Diana, I have a heart murmer too! I've had it since birth and its never given me any trouble. I hope these flutters and palpitations pass soon, it is pretty scary. x

I get this sort of thing - but my heart skips beats even when I'm not pregnant. Your heart and lungs have to work harder now so they are prob just getting used to it.

Today its really bad, about every 10 seconds my heart is skipping a beat.
Sometimes even skipping 2 beats, ugh it feels horrible.

Its putting my breathing off too. I don't feel good at all, i really hope this passses sooner rather than later. :nope:

I agree that it's so scary! I don't get skipped beats, but more noticeable or forceful beats for a few seconds. There are times when I feel like I'm going to need an ambulance!

I have a pregnancy related heart murmur. I had an echocardiogram, and the Dr. seemed sure that it wasn't an issue and that the murmur would go away on its own after I give birth.

The Dr. even told me to keep exercising and doing everything like normal, so I guess it really is normal/ok!

yes! it has been happening to me! i notice that it's after breakfast; i have been drinking a cup or two of decaf coffee, not sure if it's the little bit of caffeine? i don't like it either.

Yesterday was terrible. It continued all evening too which it never has done before.

So today i'm doing an experiment. Zero cafeine of any kind. No coffee, no tea, no decaff even, no chocolate, no extra sugar.

I'm pretty relaxed and chilled out this morning, so will go about my day as normal otherwise and see how i feel. xx

Hi Ladies,
I'm 16 weeks and have been getting these flutters, skips. They are horrible and cause me much anxiety...can't sleep! To all of you ladies who have also experienced these, did they go away for you after you had your baby? I sure hope so! Not sure how I could cope with this forever. :/
Thanks for your responses, really appreciate it! :)
