Anyone experienced uterine rupture?

I had my second son a week ago and had uterine rupture. My uterus, vagina and bladder were all ripped apart and my son was outside of the uterus when they cut me open. There were no outward signs and luckily the surgeon believed me when I said something was very wrong and both me and my son made it just in time. I know this is a really rare thing to happen and the baby surviving and thriving is almost unheard of and the chances for the mother aren't great either but has anyone else gone through it? I am feeling a bit like I am the only one.

Didnt want to just read and run. Havn't had this happen to me but just wanted to say sorry this happened to you, glad you and your son are ok and hope you feel better soon. did it rupture because of a previous c section or was it another cause? xxx

Yes, previous c-section scar. I was also induced and had a larger baby so I wonder if that didn't help.

Oh my goodness .. how awful for you. I hope you feel better soon.. physically and emotionally xx

How scary! :hugs: Glad you (literally) lived to tell the tale.

I haven't had a complete uterine rupture, but at 37 weeks with my last baby (4th c-section) my dr said she can feel the baby's hair on the scalp, through the uterine wall. That section of the uterus were that thin, and she feared rupture so baby was taken out. A friend of mine's uterus ruptured at 36 weeks, a 2-3cm opening only, by the time they got to baby. It all ended well for mom and baby, fortunately.

Sorry, that's all I have on this. I hope you feel a little less alone? It's such a traumatic thing to have to happen. You must've been so scared for your baby, for yourself and for leaving your other LO behind. :hugs:

Thank you, it really does make me feel less alone. :flower:

I think it was worse on DH in some ways because although they didn't know exactly what was going on until they opened me up he was told he might lose us both when he came into theatre but they didn't tell me anything in order to keep me calmer.

Poor, poor you!

Yes I had uterine rupture with DD1, but my circumstances were a little different. DD1 was stuck in my pelvis, they took me to theatre to attempt an instrumental delivery (I had been pushing for a hour) but she wasn't far enough down so they did an emergency c section. They had to do a lot of manipulation to free her head which was wedged and in doing this my uterus ruptured from the right edge of the section round the side and the back wall. I had a large haemorrhage and they had to call a consultant gynae to drive to the hospital from home in the middle of the night to do the repairs. So basically my uterus is almost stitched 360 degrees round the middle! Plus I had another big tear at the back wall of the uterus going down through the cervix into the vagina. It took quite a while in theatre to repair and afterwards I had to be closed with staples and the swelling was just awful. I found I couldn't talk about what had happened at all for months afterwards and even 2 years later I could still burst into tears when someone asked me about my section. It was also worse for my OH as he could hear the panic on the phone to the consultant and staff saying "she's still 10 minutes away" etc whereas I was really out of it and shivering uncontrollably.

I am not suitable for VBAC due to all of this, but the happy news is that I had DD2 through elective section and my recovery was really quick and easy second time around. (without staples and the dreadful swelling)

My circumstances are different as I say, since this happened during an emergency section. But hopefully you feel a little less alone.

Thank you for sharing your story. I can relate to a lot of it. DH was told he may lose both of us and I wasn't so it is nice to relate to OH's having a lot of the stress form it too. I took a few hours to fix and had to wait for the urologist and his equipment to get to theatre to fix my bladder damage too so I know how scary that wait is.

The recovery this time is much worse than the elective C-section with DS1 and I have found it very frustrating that some people seem to think this is like a regular c-section when it defiantly is not.

I am really sorry to hear for those of you who have also experienced it but it is really nice to hear people share their experiences. :flower:

I think it is worth remembering that statistically what happened to me was very, vary rare. :flower:

I've heard it 0.02 % ?

But I had a emcs for placental abruption caused by a retroplacental clot which is apparently extremely rare too!
It's one if those things you never expect to happen to you

My uterus ruptured in 04 my baby didn't make it because it took to long before it was realized I was 34 weeks. I was pregnant again in 06 with know problem and have a healthy 7 year old.

I am really sorry for your loss meme. I can't imagine how difficult that must have been for you. :hugs:

It was hard and very unexpected and my pregnancy after I was worried sick about it happening again with my daughter but I had a great doc that monitored me really good and all was fine.

Oh My God!! How awful!! Are you alright now? And your baby? You are such a lucky lady and your baby too!!!Did this happen when you tried to push or did this happened before that? What made you think something was really wrong?

Thankfully we are both fine, we were told we wouldn't have made it much longer if we hadn't gotten into theatre when we did so we are really very lucky. DS2 came out thriving against all odds and I am recovering and probably won't have permanent damage although I am still having treatment to fix some of the damage.

I had an induction and at only 3cm's I was in agony so got a epidural, I always thought I had a high pain threshold so never expected to do that, but the epidural didn't work anyway. I had the epidural and was using gas and air still but the pain was only getting worse. I had an immense pain in my bladder and the world sort of went hazy around me and although the MW said sometimes it is uncomfortable if you need a wee after an epidural I know something was very wrong and it was not because I needed a wee! The doctor came and couldn't see any signs of rupture on the outside but since I was sure there was something wrong along with progressing slowly and slight declarations in DS2 heart rate we should consider an EMCS because it would probably end up like that anyway- I told them to do it quickly although from the many people in the room at the time I am sure many thought I was overeating. I was on code amber until DS2's heart rate dramatically dropped and I was rushed out then and there. The doctor was clearly shocked when he opened me up as he wasn't expecting what he saw and like many doctors have no experience dealing with it but luckily he handled it very well. This is the longer birth story: https://babyandbump.momtastic.com/b...ents/1892835-uterine-rupture-birth-story.html

Just read your birth story. I'm so glad that you both survived and are healthy, even if you still have to undergo treatment. God knew that your DH & your babies needed you, so glad you're here!:hugs:
