Sorry to keep papping on about my breech baby but its playing on my mind. I've decided not to go down the route of manually turning baby if it comes to it and i've read on babycentre that its actually easier to deliver a frank beech baby as long as you have an experienced midwife....
Anyone know of anyone or have actually experienced a frank beech birth rather than having to have a c section?

Cheers xx

Unfortunately, not. Our NCT class said that though it is physically possible to give birth vaginally to a breech baby that most midwives these days don't have the skills so they will automatically schedule you in for a c-section. Might think about acupuncture or other mean of turning baby. I know I would do ANYTHING o avoid a c section!

The friend I mentioned before had been told that baby was head down and it wasn't til she was in active labour that they discovered she was coming down bum first. They had an emergency c-section slot for her but it was needed for someone else so they let her carry on trying naturally. With a lot of coached pushing she managed to deliver her daughter.

I was born a breech baby, my mother does tell me though that it was her most painful birth (there's three of us). They were going to use forceps, I think it was the fear of those that made her push so hard to get me out. It is possible but as thye have mentioned above I dont think many midwives have much experience in delivering them as c-sections are always the more chosen route.

My son was an undiagnosed footling breech. They didn't notice til i'd delivered his legs. We nearly lost him. Csec all the way for me this time.

thanks ladies, didn't know if i was grasping at straws by wanting a vaginal delivery x

I wasn't really given the option - H was frank breech and they said they MIGHT have let me try naturally if I had already had one or more babies vaginally before, but they felt it was too risky for a first baby. I got the feeling if I had totally refused a c-section they might have let me at least try but I didn't fancy getting into allsorts of trouble and ending up in an emergency surgery situation, and if anything had gone wrong I would have totally blamed myself for going against medical recommendation.

My planned c-section was so calm and well managed, and H arrived safely, I would do the same again in a heartbeat.

My midwife said to me they wouldnt let me deliver this one breech as shes my first, but if it was my 2nd or 3rd theyd have no problems allowing me a vaginal birth. She said theres just too much risk of babies head getting stuck and them not being able to fix it if theyre breech and with your first they just dont know how your bodies going to react or if it can get a baby through without assistance.

Have you posted in the home and natural birthing section? Mayvbe worth it to get more positive stories. There is no reason for you to have a section for a frank breech, and they would be offering one at their convenience which is naughty. However, I also agree with the poster who mentioned midwives are becoming deskilled in this area so it'll be good to know who on your local team has experience enough to support you.

Xxxxx

there is a lady in home and natural birthing that had a beech birth at home, perhaps ask in their. however, personally i'd find out if any mw has the experience to do it at your hospital. if not i'd go for a planned c section.

Thanks ladies for your input i'll go over to the other forum to see what i can find out xx

Seriously Id recomend you make the decision to have a c section.

We have a beautiful 2 week old baby boy who was breech. Ive come on this forum soley to share our story and hopefully help.

My missis when into labour and immediatly was having intensly painfull contractions. The time between contractions was varied from 60 seconds to seven minutes. When we got to labour ward the midwife was brilliant, she did an internal and noticed he was coming boy bits first. We were given the choice between natural and c section, 60 minutes later he was born by c section.

Obviously if you choose c section there are always risks with any operation, but they are calculated risks and the operation is farly simple and done frequently. The biggest risk is probably you not looking after yourself well enuf afterwards. No housework or lifting anything heavier than your baby for 6 weeks. And after you wash use a hair dryer to dry the wound. Water can indirectly casues infection.

If you go for a natural breech birth, understand you will be experiencing extreem pain due to the fact that babys head is not engaged which causes the pressure around the pelvis area to be uneven, and also pushing before full dilation can be a risk to baby so maybe an epidural.
Also with a vaginal breech birth there are risks to mother and baby. One large risk being you not being able to pass the head.

This was our fourth birth and even so we chose a c section. In my opinion I would strongly advise a c section. I think its in the best interest of mother and baby.

Also a positive is it puts lest strain on your waterworks. The negative is a scar but if a horizontal incision this is very low and below you pant line.

I was a frank breech baby- my mom was in labor for over 24 hours before they finally gave her a c-section
