I have ummed abd arrhed about going private ( well ok, looked at the prices and thought maybe not !) but anyway just wandered if anyone has gone private or part private ?

It wasn't until I was speaking to someone at work who has gone private for just hsg so I looked in to it

I'm waiting for my first gyno app which is next week so I'm hoping I will be put on list for hsg if there is such thing

As I have seen there are long waiting times I thought I may go private and some clinic like the one I found charges £280 which you just need gp to refer you alternativley you can book app without gp ref but consultation is between £100-£200 so providing your gp will do this then this option may ge the way to go ?

I mean if there is anything up to a 4 month wait then I'll pay private but if it's 3 months I may wait, cause thinking say they say I need lap and dye next and is another 4 m wait then would have saved 8 m wait approx

Any ideas or advice ?!

Xx

Hi, we have gone private but also on the NHS waiting list. We've been trying for over 2 years and I just couldn't wait any longer, it does cost a fortune - I've had 2 IUI's so far (in my 2WW for the last one) but I feel so much better by actually doing something. Everything just seems so slow on the NHS and it was doing my head in. You just need to do whatever you feel comfortable doing. Where abouts in Kent are you, I'm based in Rochester.
I hope things get moving for you soon x

I we t private for my pcos. I had initial consultation with private gynaecologist, hag, laparoscopy and servix cauterisation oh and the initial scan. All of that came to about 2500 pounds which my insurance paid for as scans and laparoscopy were also for mild endometriosis which is covered by insurance.

I loved going private- the service was amazing! Lovely hospital, no waiting at all! I'd love to go private all the way but it is so expensive:(

we have gone priivate after 2.5years ttc#2. i am currently exploring the egg share ivf route. im eligible, so just have to go through the screening process. i live in surrey and im seeing the private consultant dr ounega at east surrey hospital. love and luck to you xx

Hi I am a Brit but working overseas so NHS was not really an option for me as I would not have any contol over my appt times etc. Also the wait list put me off as I am 37 and do not have time on my side to wait for months just to see a FS for a consult.

I now see a private doc in London and fly in and have my consult and tests all done in 1 or 2 days and then fly back. The service is amazing and I would really reccomend it if you could get the money together somehow. I get my results so quickly, HSG was the following day instead of weeks on the NHS. I know that it is alot of money but really worth it for the service you get, this journey is hard enough without having to wait months to have a simple test and then have to wait months more to move onto IUI or IVF if you are lucky.

I totally adore my doctor, he doesn't promise me the earth but he is straightforward, tells me the truth and gives me options which is all we can ask for.

Good luck to you all :hugs:

Hi Hun

Yeah exactly, even if you feel like you are doing something it just makes you feel a bit better !

I'm in sittingbourne so not too far away from you then !

What private hospital did you go to ? I've looked in to the spire hospital in Chatham.

I think i will just wait and see what happens at my gyno app.

When did you have your iui's and can you get them on the nhs ? I've read on here that someones doc sent them for iui - wish my doc would, just feel like the process is so slow !!

Hiya

Ive just had my first private appointment today and it was great. we have been trying nearly 4yrs and as my BMI is 37 instead of 35 the NHS wont even confirm PCOS with a scan so we finally decided to go private (while im loosing the weight).

This Dr was really good, again like someone else said he was very straight forward and honest but also really wanted to help.

I thought I would need to pay as infertility is not covered by my insurance but as its actually treatment for PCOS he said I should be able to claim so that was a bonus.

The hospital (it was a BMI hospital) was very nice and I was seen quickly, if i had been free my appointment would have been the next day.

Goodluck

We have no NHS funding (because of my age) so for us it doesn't make a difference financially if we go witht he NHS or a private clinic....well, only about £500 difference on a £5,000 bill!

the NHS waiting list for donor eggs is 3 years, and the private wait is 6 months - guess that made the decision for us!

Hi, just wanted to add to this as I don't know what would have happened if I hadn't gone private. I am lucky enough that my partner has private medical through his work, and it was only after my MC in June that I went for a second opinion, as I was being made very confused by the people at the NHS hospital.
In the few short months that I have been seeing a private consultant, I feel that she has sorted out problems that must have been going on for years, that I cannot believe were missed on the NHS. I was 'unexplained' after a year and a bit of trying (I'm 38 so investigations started sooner rather than later). I was all set for IVF, dates arranged and everything, when I got pg, but lost it in a MMC.
Since I have been seeing the private consultant and told her about the symptoms I had been having, she immediately diagnosed cervical erosion and performed a cauterization 3 days later. This has completely stopped the spotting I have been having for over 3 years. On further investigation, she suspected endometriosis and arranged a laparoscopy and hysteroscopy within 2 weeks. Sure enough she found bad endo, twisted tube stuck to one ovary, which she has sorted as best she can, and the operation was a breeze. I must have had this endo for a long time as there were adhesions everywhere, and this had never been suggested or investigated in 2 years on the NHS. Basically, the whole of my 'insides' were in a complete mess, and she has completely sorted me out in 3 months.
I think the treatments and consultations I have had have probably added up to about £1200 in total, but considering the cost of IVF I think this is well worth it to be treated so well and so quickly. I know that a lot of NHS places are fantastic and that they are stretched and under-resourced but I haven't got time to waste and I am so thankful for the chance to go private.
Sorry to ramble on, but if you can possibly do it I highly recommend it. good luck x

Sorry not to come back sooner, haven't been on here in a while as on Friday found out my 2nd IUI hasn't worked - great!!!

Anyway, yes I've been going to the Spire in Chatham and seeing Mr Sadoon, he is lovely and so understanding. I presume you would be under the Medway for NHS and you would also see him there. You can get IUI on the NHS and the Medway will refer you to the Chaucer in Canterbury for the actual treatment once they've done all their tests. Mr Sadoon mentioned an 18 week waiting list once he has sent the referral which isn't too bad but you do have all the months while you're waiting for the actual tests to be carried out. I didn't have to have as many as he had done them all for me privately. I'm not sure how many IUI's you get on the NHS as we haven't got that far yet but I know he has referred me for IUI/IVF. If you have IUI through the Spire you have the actual treatment at the London Fertility Centre in London near Harley St. All the prices for treatment are on the Spire's website if you decide to go that route, we had a little shock as he sent us for more blood tests for the my 1st one and for both of us they came to £850!!! You also have the costs of the drugs on top which came to about £250. He is a lovely consultant and I really recommend him whether you choose NHS or privately.

Hello,
I went private after a year of TTC, the NHS wouldnt scan me even tho I was sure I had PCOS (No af and pain in ovary), they eventually ran some bloods which showed low progesterone and said it ruled out PCOS?!
So I paid £300 to see a FS privately (this includes a scan) and got my diagnosis of bad PCOS within 5 minutes!! I was given Clomid and had a couple of follicle tracking scans and 3 months later I fell pregnant.
Had I listened to the NHS I would still be trying and have no idea I have PCOS, going private was the best thing I ever did. Plus I only had to wait 2 days for get an appointment, the service is amazing :-)
Good luck xx

Congrats on your pregnancy Sarazoo.

I just wanted to add that I had my appointment Friday, I received an email from my consultant on Sunday confirming what we had discussed and first thing this morning (Tuesday) i got a call booking me in for a scan tomorrow afternoon. This is the scan the FS would never give me on the NHS as I have a BMI over 35 (its 37 so not far off). Wonderful and quick treatment.

HI everyone
I read this thread with interest as we've just had our fertility clinic appointment today in Surrey, following hsg about 6-8 weeks ago! At over 38 now and ttc for 2 years this waiting around is getting us both down. I have suspected hydrosalpinx in my right tube and we were advised that an IVF clinic is likely to require the tube to be removed before we start a cycle. The clinic is referring us to the consultant there to double-check the diagnosis and from there they suspect a lap(?) to remove the tube.
Any thoughts on whether now is the time to get to see this consultant privately? I'm conscious that further weeks and months are going by, yet under the NHS apparently one tube isn't considered a reason for IVF and we need to have been trying for a further year before we qualify for a cycle. My BMI is also 32 by their estimation so I don't qualify anyway until I progress with my weight loss plan.
It's all so confusing, so I'd really welcome peoples' views!
