Hi all,

I have very recently lost my first pregnancy to a miscarriage at 7 weeks. I am keeping an open mind, but have a suspicion that a short luteal phase may have been the cause (based on BBT mine would have been about 10 days, with the previous cycle before getting pregnant being 35 days, and ovulating on day 25 of the cycle I conceived in).

I am very unsure of when to start trying again and really really don't want to go through another miscarriage. I am wondering about seeking assessment and treatment of short luteal phase before trying; on the other hand I know drs are really not keen to do any testing unless the person has had 2 or even 3 miscarriages. I hear that is because most people do go on to have a successful pregnancy after a miscarriage, and only as few as 1% suffer recurring miscarriages.

SO my question is, are there any of you out there who have/had a short luteal phase and miscarried, but have then gone on to have a baby without any treatment related to the luteal phase thing, or after taking B6 but no medical intervention - I have just started taking B6.

Thank you so much, I am kind of desperate for answers right now. Good luck to everyone reading who is TTC xx

I will let you know, I am taking B6 this cycle and hoping it works!! have to get preggers first I guess ;) so we will see!

Really sorry to hear of your story :(

i dont know how much this will help but i had a shortish luteal phase (9-10 days) and managed to get pregnant and past the 12 week safe mark without any B6 or anything else.

I did a lot of internet research on LP's before getting pregnant as was worried it would affect my chances of conceiving - as far as i could tell, 10 days was shortish but still within the normal range; and i never read anything about it causing miscarriage, although i know that a short LP is due to low progesterone and I think that can cause mc so maybe they are linked.

Anyway, lots and lots of luck with the ttc - hope you get your BFP's very very soon xx

I'm dropping in from first tri to offer some support to you. I suffered a missed miscarriage last year in November. At the time, my LP was exactly 10 days when I conceived and my progesterone was extremely low from the beginning (7.1). I lost the pregnancy at 9-10 weeks despite progesterone supplements and had a D&C. After my D&C, my LP went down to 9 days. I didn't try anything different (except kept taking B vitamins), just waited for my body to recover and catch back up. I had never had irregular cycles in the past so it was mostly just waiting for my body to tell me it was ready again. After 5 months, my LP was back up to 12 days, and in 2 more months it was up to 14. It took us 8 months of TTC, but we are successfully (cautiously) pregnant again. All the testing seems to point that this will be a successful pregnancy. My progesterone at 14 DPO was 22 (much better!) and I've had a happy pregnancy so far. :)

I'm not sure when your MC was, but the best advice that I can give you is just be patient because you will get pregnant again and chances are you will go on to have a very successful pregnancy! <3 Best wishes to you, things will all work out!

Hiya sorry for your loss.

My LP is 10 days and I have a very healthy 12 month old. Sadly have misscarried twice since having him but midwife said it wasnt to do with my short LP and I will go on to have another baby.

I'm sure you will have a healthy pregnancy soon, its an awful fact but my midwife said 1 in 4 pregnancies end before the 12 week mark with no obvious reason for it xx

I have an 11 day luteal phase. I had 2 miscarriages after Megan so questioned my dr about it. She claimed that if lp was a factor it would be more likely that it would have been a chemical pregnancy and I would have started bleeding right around the time af was due.

She said miscarriage is common and the older you are the more common it is and such some women will have 2 ( like I did) but that nothing is really wrong it's just bad luck. They assume mine were both chromosomal as that is the most common reason for first tri losses. I lost my beans at 6 weeks and 6 1/2 weeks. Neither made it to heartbeat stage.

We are pregnant again 11 weeks 1 day.. I've seen the heartbeat at 8 weeks 5 days and heard it on Doppler last night at 11 weeks.

Good luck to you :hugs:

Hiya thanks for posting this and congrats on your pregnancy.
Gives me hope :) xxx

I know of 3 people on this forum who have a short lp but have had successful pregnancies. 1 of them has had 1 miscarriage and is now at the end of her pregnancy. I hope they see this and reply.

I have a short lp of 10-11 days, but I have never been pregnant. I hope I'm not making a bad decision trying to have a baby because I would feel guilty if I fell pregnant and had a mc, but I have hope listening to others stories.

Hey, thank you so much to you all. It is definitely helpful to hear stories of success, and i wish all the best to those of you who are currently pregnant! i am going to the doc for a follow up in a few days (miscarriage was only 10 days ago). I plan to ask him about it and whether I should have any testing done. But I am also now more open to the possibility that this was just bad luck eg random chromosoal abnormality or similar.
Thanks again!!
