So considering this is probably our last baby, I've become a little bit fixated on finding out the gender. I'm only 7+5 but have been researching all the 'theories' etc and I just want to know one way or the other as soon as possible.

I know I can't wait until 20 weeks - last time, we paid for an earlier private gender scan. Their policy stated it was for after 16 weeks but I was something like 15+3 and just booked a normal 'reassurance' scan, knowing full well we'd ask to see the gender while we were there! We could all very obviously see boy-bits so I know you CAN see it sooner.

I've discovered through this forum that some countries (e.g South Africa) tell you the gender at the 12/13 week scan (and aw quite accurate)
I know they would never do it at an NHS 12 week Scan - but I'm wondering if we paid for a private scan around that time, would they let us see a 'potty shot' if we asked...?!
I'm not saying I would ask them to tell us the gender as I know they'd say no - so infact I'd probably do the opposite and tell them I don't expect them to SAY anything, we'd just like to look at that particular view and see if we can make anything out ourselves.

Do you think they would accommodate that seeing as we'd be paying for it..?!

The earliest I've found out the gender was 16+3 and it was very clear he was a boy, I think they can probably have a good guess at the gender earlier but they don't want to be liable if they get it wrong. I don't think they'd tell you even if you asked because the rate of accuracy isn't great before 16+3.

Of course there is always harmoney testing that can tell you the gender from a lot earlier in 14 weeks I think or maybe sooner. X

I would do it for fun but I wouldn't feel comfortable relying on the result that early. Girls can actually look like boys early on.
Is there a blood test available to you? I'm having a genetic test done next week and it will tell gender

Harmony Tests are available privately but are very expensive (£400).
There are some companies online claiming to tell gender from 9 weeks via a blood test for about £180 but when I've looked into their reviews, they have all given wrong results to some!

I had a private scan at 13+5 and she was very clearly girl! Definitely possible to find out early 💖

Lucy are you in the U.K? We seem to be the only country that won't do it before 16 weeks!

I've booked one for 16+1 on the 6 th Dec and I do know they won't tell u before that but I don't see why they wouldn't let YOU see a potty shot ,just they probably won't comment on it and just be aware it can be inaccurate as pp said ,boys are quite obvious but girls can be a bit harder so can get mistaken, good luck with whatever you decide and hope you get the answer you want,I suppose I'm not too fussed now like I used to be as last 5 baby's have been boys so chances are I already know haha.x

Wow Mumof12 that's impressive..!

I've been researching the Nub Theory so I'm planning to have a look out for that during my NHS scan, and if I can't see anything then we'll probably book a private scan shortly afterwards and see what we can see there... my partner's view is that we're paying for it, so if we ask to see a certain view then they should let us... Which I do kind-of agree with, but I also feel they might still say no because they don't want any potential comeback from it!

I was pregnant with my daughter in the US (had her in Australia) and the private scan place said they could tell at 14 weeks (so I prenteded i was 14 weeks 😆). The reason I went was because I had my 12 week scan at 13+4 and I asked the OB who did it if he knew if it was a girl or boy. So he spent ages looking at the potty shot and finally said ITS A BOY! Now I was lying thinking 'wow this sure does look like a girl' before he said anything so when he said boy I was really surprised. So as soon as I got out of there I called the private scan place and booked the first appointment they had as I was sure my OB was wrong. When I had the scan the tech asked if I already knew what it was and I told her how my OB thought one way and I thought the other so she said not to tell her what my OB thought and to see what she thought, anyway as soon as she put the probe on she said 'well it's obviously a girl'. She said babies develop at different rates and that mine was very much developed and obviously a girl (so much so I could tell straight away). So to cut a long story short, you can definitely tell at 13 weeks! Sorry for the long story! 😂💖

Same with me  13+1 and very clearly girly! I'm in South Africa where, as Memma said, they confidently confirm the gender at your nuchal scan at 13 weeks. But it is done by doctors who specialise in only 13 and 20 week scans all day every day. Not sure if that's the difference?

I was on holiday when i had a gender scan at 14 weeks. The only private place in Northern Ireland and they make you wait until 18 weeks for a cheap gender scan, double the price for one at 16 weeks! We'll wait until 18 weeks as our hospital won't mention gender at 20 week scan.
