no but ive been waiting for an appointment to have this done to and im so scared just like you :hugs: can i ask what symptoms u getting? i will keep an eye on this thread as i would like some info on this too :)

I've had an upper endoscopy but I don't think it's the same as what you are talking about. I was under IV sedation and they run a camera down your esophagus, like a colonoscopy.

whats the different between an upper GI, upper endosocopy and camera i thought they were all the same

I had this done last month with sedation. They injected me with Madazolam which is supposed to relax you and make you forget the procedure although you are still fully concious.I felt that they didnt give the drug long enough time to work from being injected with it to having the camera down as I remember everything and felt everything. You will probably feel panicky but try to remember that the camera isnt going to stop you from breathing its going down your food pipe, you will probably gag quite abit but the procedure itself is over rather quickly.I would adivise taking the sedation to try and make the procedure as less traumatic as possible.:hugs: hope it goes ok x

I'm not sure. The terminology is different in different countries I think. Here, you aren't given an option of light sedation for an upper endoscopy. You are given general anesthesia via IV.

Hi everyone
I had one 1 1/2 years back, and yes they did give me choice, i opted to be fully awake. I was scared to death and to be honest it wasn't that bad at all. I the swalloing bit is terrible and i kept on gagging through out the procedure, tears were rolling down my cheeks :cry:and there he was aking me to look at the tv which was showing inside of me and i couldn't beacuse of fears, the whole procedure was painless though. Uncomfortable distressing but surely not painful.
the procedure was like;
they put some thing to keep holding my mouth open(wide open)
did spray in my throat (terrible :()
inserted the camera which was attached to a pipe
only a few minutes later they pumped something (air through the same pipe)
and taken the camera out.
the camera itself was not as small as he mentioned to me but i did it without the sedation and it ended in a few minutes anyway.
Decide whatever u feel is good for u but honestly the procdeure was not that bad without sedation too.
Good luck:hugs:

Hi, I had this done a couple of years ago, and I was having both a sigmoidoscopy (up the bum) and an endoscopy (down the throat....hope they didnt use the same camera...lol) and I was terrified before it...but...I was given something to 'relax' me and I honestly cannot remember anything at all. My mum had one many years ago and hated it as she was retching etc...it must be completely different for everyone. For me it wasn't a bad experience. Good luck x

Definitely take the sedation. I had to have an endoscopy, and the registrar talked me out of sedation, I have no idea why (probably more work for him, he was an ass :growlmad:) I really wish now that I had pushed for it, as being awake for the procedure was not pleasant for me at all.

I hope it goes well for you :hugs:

Thanks everyone, i think i will go for the sedation, im a bit of a wimp lol, one more thing i wanted to ask, is do they put magic cream on before the sedation needle

They want to send me for a scan on same day, i suffered terrible pain attacks that come on me 8wks after having lo, feels like my stomack ribs and back are being crushed, i got woken up at 2:45am last nite with agony needing 4 pain killers that didn't work until 25mins later, so really need to get to the bottom of this.

oohh I had it done about 13 years ago - I didnt have sedation and it was fine - total walk int he park. No pain not even any discomfort - I was just pissed off they wouldnt let me watch.

xxx

I did it worry over, was having sedation but appointments were delayed and i waited 2 hours so had to do it without as my partner had work, the spray rly did numb my throat, only bourked when i swallowed it, it was very uncomfortable wont be doing that again, had an ultrasound to, they found something under my rib, it was the longest ultrasound ever, they took measurements etc, and i am so angry that they wouldnt tell me what it was, said they cant and im to wait until gp contacts mewith the results, how can they leave you worrying like that, i told them its my body i have a right to know but nothing :( i am just glad im finaly getting to the bottom of these pains, had enough of crying myself to sleep, so just want it sorted now. Will update.

& Vicky your twins are adorable reminds me of mine when they were that age, well done you :)

u may have gallstones was it the right side they found something? i doubt it's nothing serious! try not to worry untill u get the results i kno easier sed than done i would be the same, do u have 2 wait long?
i had an ultrasound and they found a few things wrong with me and they wouldnt say what it was just it wasnt nothing serious, well all that week all i did was google cry and worry, in the end the results were a cyst on my kidney (nothing at all to worry about says doc) tiny bit of scarrin on kidney from infections appaerntly and a polyp in my gallbladder hence why i'm going for a scan to see how the gallbladder is functioning as i'm too get pains since LO was 10 weeks old, Good Luck Keep Us Posted :hugs:

Exactly its the wait thats most worrying, i wouldnt of minded even if they said you av a gallstone etc but nothing :( my lo is 7mths now and iv suffered with these pain attacks from 8wks after she was born, and its depressing me, just want it all to be over, i will keep posted.

i had gallstones and had the gallbladder removed 2 weeks after having my son.
the pain you mentioned in an earlier post sounds very familiar.
pregnancy hormones can cause gallstones, its quite common.
if you want to know anything else pm me
xx

My results didnt get sent to my doctor so they had to chace them up, got an appointment tomorow, in the mean time iv found a lump under my left rib on my side, which i noticed yesterday when lo was on my knee, i felt something digging in and its sore, gotworse today and feels bigger, so im going tomention it tomorow, could be the cause of all the problems iv had.

You could ask your doctor about a capsule endoscopy, they just make you take a pill which is a camera that is what my doctor wants to do for me.
