Hi Everyone,

When I had my son who is 5 years old we could pre make up the bottles and put them in the fridge as long as you used them within 24 hours which we always did way before.

Now it appears that Cow&Gate do not recommend you do this as apparently some mums were leaving them in the fridge and using them after 24 hours

Do any of you pre make up the bottles with the milk in and store them in the fridge??

We are using ready made for in the middle of the night and I swear the mix is making her constipated???

It's up to you hun, everyone does it their own way. The new guidelines are not to make bottles up and to do a new one with freshly boiled water every time which isn't very practical.

I make them up and store in the fridge for when I'm home, when I'm out I take the powder in little powder dispensers and have boiled water in the bottle and just mix the powder in when I need it.

We make them up from scratch for each feed when we're at home as Joe's now in a fairly predicatable routine so we have figured out when the start the steriliser etc to get it ready in time! Alot of people on here do seem to make them up in advance though, I think it's up to the individual, as dom85 said.
When we're out, I take a sterilised bottle (put it all together before we go) and a carton of ready made formula.
Hope that helps x

Yep. I make them up in advance and store them in the fridge.
Worked fine for my older 2 and works fine now.
I don't use them if they've been in the fridge for over 24 hours but I make enough bottles that this never happens!

Thats exactly what I was thinking I never had a problem with my son....thanks again x x

I make up my bottles in advance as well, keep them in the fridge never did any harm to me and it works fine with hollie, like everyone else, i would never use a bottle that is over 24 hous, but this never happens anyway xxx

I make mine each night for the following 24hrs and store in the fridge, not had any problems

Do people let them cool to room temperature before putting them in the fridge? We tend to boil kettle, let cool for 30 mins, make up feed, allow feed to cool to room temp, then refridgerate. I'm a bit concerned because obviously the feed isn't put in the fridge for about an hour after making it. Does anyone else do it like this? We tend to make them up 12 hourly and that suits us well enough.

I put them in a bowl of cold water to cool them down quickly and then put them in the fridge, that way there's less chance of any nasties breeding in it at room temperature

Yep agree with above, we use cow and gate and have had no effects from storing milk in the fridge for up to 24 hours.

So confusing!!!

I am breast-feeding but little one (now 6 days old) has lost 12% birth weight and midwife is wanting me to top-up with expressed/bottle feeds.

I am sterilising the bottles, putting in the correct amount of freshly (cooled for 20mins) boiled water, and then leaving bottles on worktop.

Will then add powder and shake when I want to use one.

Is this ok???
:flower:

Thats how i make , make 4 bottles up at a time and leave them on the side and then just add the milk, saves alot of crying time :flower: xx

I only heard today about these new guidelines .. I cant see why storing them in a bottle would be dangerous , but I want to look into it now .

I make them up in advance and keep in the fridge. I just make sure they are at the back of the fridge not like in a compartment on the door as obviously they will be out of the fridge whenever it's opened.

I know they advise you to make them as you need them but when you have a screaming baby there isn't always time to boil a kettle and wait 30 mins for it to cool is there?

I have an 11, 10 and 8 year old, and used to make my bottles up, keep them in fridge then use them all within 24hrs. I never had any issues with them, now i have a new baba and things have changed sooo much, its too confusing. So ive decided that i know whats best for my lo and will continue to make his bottles up and store them, as its not convinient (sp) to make them individually, when hes crying, hes heavy, you cant soothe him whilst holding him AND make up a bottle and wait for it to cool!!! My only advice is go with your gut feeling, for those of us that have older kids and have done it before and was fine, its just using common sense really dont make too many that you wont use in 24hrs, make sure the fridge is ok temp etc x x x

Exactly how I do them too

I usually make about 4 up at a time, then refrigerate until i need them. havent had any problems doing it this way.

i only do it at night, during the day i make them as needed and never keep ny premade more than 12hrs

When Findlay was in hospital they made him up 24 hours worth of milk every morning so if a hospital are doing it then it is obviously fine to do.
