am i the only person not cooking mountains of food to put in the freezer for after the birth? i have an unstable hip, so if i stand for long periods my pelvis gets sore, i have carpal tunnel syndrome, which means that i can barely hold a knife and fork to eat, never mind peeling and chopping etc, and i'm just plain tired! am i a bad mother because i will buy easy to cook and pre-prepared food from the supermarket (on-line, of course!)? i love the idea of only eating home-cooked food, but for me it's just not practical. of course, i will do my best to ensure i eat as healthily as possible, but i actually feel a little bit guilty about it!

i wont be stocking up the freezer on preveiously cooked food coz i always think it tastes skank lol

Nope I won't be stocking up the freezer on home cooked food, there's no point I won't end up wanting it and I'm pretty sure that I'm going to be able to manage to cook food if not oh can cook whatever is in the freezer what we usually eat if not there's always a take away!!

No, dont worry about it hun. Its not as difficult to do stuff with a new born as some people would have you believe. Just dont go planning 3 course meals in the 1st few weeks. Nice simple dinners that require little effort will be fine.

Hey

I started, I cooked a massive lasagne last week and froze 4 large portions...however, being on maternity leave I have been lazy and eating them instead of cooking dinner :haha: so have kind of defeated the object of freezing food for any LO arrives!

x

Nope I'm not!! OH will be on paternity for 2wks so I'm sure he'll manage to keep an eye on baby for 30mins whilst I cook our tea!! x

i'm totally with you - have survived for 35 years on microwave meals and frozen foods and am not about to stop now! might think about cooking family meals once baby is on solids but even then, me and DH will be working full time and are not foodies so have better things to do with our (little) spare time i'm sure!

don't be silly! you can only do what you are able to do. i'm not stocking the freezer purely because i don't have any room in it! it would be lovely to have nice meals ready to heat up but if it's not practical, then forget it xx

i never did.
id spend my day too busy just staring at zane and id forget to eat lol but my oh would come home and cook dinner for us.
id say get lots of snacky foods in so u can easily grab something if u need and dont want to cook

thank goodness for that, i was starting to think i was the only person who thought that i would probably manage to cook sometimes, and manage with beans on toast if not!!

I'm not as I don't do much of our cooking anyway! I'm really lucky that DH is a fantastic cook and finds cooking relaxing so I'm not really allowed in the kitchen anyway! I know he'll be tired too at first and so there are always takeaways at the end of the phone to keep us going if we need them! :haha:

no cooking for me. i don't even know what i would cook to put up. just too much of a hassle right now. i will probably regret it in about 2 months!

I wont be either, I dont have enough room for it even if I wanted to, I will likely get hubby to make a big spagetti sauce and i will freeze that but thats not really out of the ordinary for us as we make sure we have frozen sauce in the freezer all the time

I expect my stepdad to do the cooking the same as he does now :D

I shall do a huge online shop though when I go back home a few weeks after birth and will probably cook myself some meal :)

Me neither!

Mainly becasue I don't have room but in reality even if I did I'm sure I wouldn't get around to it anyway.

Think it's a bit unneccesary - if between me and DH we won't have time to cook something simple then we probably won't have time to eat it anyway.

And quite happy with frozen pizza/quiche etc and sandwiches and fruit etc and takeaways until we do find our feet!

I make the odd complicated or at least moderate effort meal now - but most nights after getting home from work at 7-8pm all we can be bothered with is easy oven food or pasta. Once LO is here I doubt we'll suddenly change and only want 3 course home-cooked from scratch fancy dinners :)

im not one for eating leftovers... so i think i would treat it like a leftover.. i had good intentions with chili last year, well i found it in my freezer this past weekend.. so thats how good i am at it... if i cant handle making a meal while a newborn is in the house then im lost!!! hahaha

I am/have, but we can't do on-line shopping or have a take away because we're too far from anywhere!! Hubby will cook if something has a recipe and is easy, but I love cooking so have done quite a bit for the freezer.....

Not that it counts, but have just made plum and rum jam, I think I will need to hide it from myself though as have just eaten the scrapings straight out of the pan..... :D

no way i never did and i wont be this time either. to be honest after i was home from my section i was out within a day or 2 going shopping etc anyway having a newborn doesn't change much, it's as they get older that everything changes lol! at first they spend 80% of the time asleep so you can still do everything anyway cook, eat, shop etc

Im totally with you all. Im not cooking meals and have a 2 year old to feed every night. Im sure I can manage to cook here and then and if not there is always DH, my Mum and fish fingers won't kill us. I never did understand all this organising so far in advance but then again thats my nature... Miss Organised I am NOT!!
