I've posted this in loads of places as desperate to hear from someone else that has scoliosis and find out if you are having a cesarean or natural birth?

With my DD my husband wanted me to have a cesarean as we weren't sure how tilted / twisted my pelvis is (I have a 35 degree curve at bottom of my spine and a 15 degree one at top so spine is S shaped)
I wasn't overly keen on the idea but ended up hospitalised with severe pre eclampsia at 37 weeks and decision was taken out of my hands when they decided baby had to come out at 38 weeks and she wasn't head down.

They hadn't realised how bad my curves were and it resulted in them not being able to physically administer a spinal as they just couldn't get it in correctly so I ended up having to be put to sleep :(

I really don't want this to happen again and hated the cesarean recovery time but OH is still terrified of baby getting stuck so was just wondering if anyone else can please share their experiences with me as my MW and docs aren't overly familiar with the condition. Thanks :)

Sorry I can't help but my sister (who doesn't have children yet) has scoliosis so I'd be interested in any experience people can share. If you do get a CS maybe you could get them to take special steps beforehand to make sure they know where to put the spinal block.

It doesn't give a lot of details but his information from the National Scoliosis Foundation is interesting:
According to a recent study, pregnancy and delivery are rarely affected by scoliosis. Pregnant women are no more prone to progression than non-pregnant women. Any adult, male or female, with an untreated major curvature may experience a progression after skeletal maturity. The tendency to develop idiopathic scoliosis is inherited, so children of a scoliotic parent may be at greater risk than the general population. Early detection and treatment, however, should prevent problems.

I have scoliosis and last time I was checked it was an 8 degree curve. I plan on having a natural birth without medication/epidural etc. However, I work with a girl who was poked 3 times because of her scoliosis when she got an epidural and they were finally able to get it. :( I would talk to your doctor ahead of time, explain your concerns over what happened last time and that you DON'T want a repeat. Surely they can find a way to do an ultrasound guided insertion or something similar?

I have mild scoliosis.

I'm having an appointment with the aneasatist next month to find out if I can get an epidural or not.

I also have a low lying placenta so having an additional scan at 32 weeks to find out whether I can give birth naturally or not. So I might not get the chance as may need a C-Section if the placenta hasn't moved.

I have scoli and I am due very soon. I never thought about the curve effecting my pelvic bone, only that the epi would be hard. I have a 30% up in my T's and something small lower. I talked with a anesthesiologist who said he doesn't think there is a problem with the epi and the scoli. But you made a good point. I am attempting vag and an epi if i need it.

I had a low laying placenta too but it moved. Apparently it is very rare that it doesn't move unless it is actually covering the cervix.
