I take metformin as I have PCOS, my dose has just been upped to 1000mgs, (one 500mg morning and night). The problem is, I feel soooo bloated and nauseous. Is there any way I can reduce the nausea? Or does anyone have any tips, I cant cope with this, its awful! x

Try taking it right before bed instead of during the day. Maybe best to try on a night where you have nothing to do the next day just in case you are up all night sick. However, it worked for me to stop the side effects as well as for alot of other people I know. I still have an occasional bad day if something doesn't agree with me but otherwise it's fine.

It should get better after a few weeks too. I started at 500mg then went to 1000mg and then 1500mg. Every time, I had bad side effects for about 2 weeks. Your body will adjust. You can also ask about extended release version of it. I've heard it's better and less side effects.

Thankyou! Ill try that, ive been taking it with breakfast and its definitely not working out lol. And I definitely ask about the extended release version, a few people have mentioned it and it seems a lot better! I hope these 2 weeks go quickly ha.

TTCabundle - Hi, I am currently taking metformin same as you. 500mg in the morning and evening. I dont remember getting bloaty tummy, maybe your body is getting adjusted to it? If you are concerned then do speak to the doctor. No harm.

As for the nausea, I do find that when I take the Metformin on a stomach that is not full, I have a horrible sick feeling. I have my metformin after lunch and after dinner. I always make sure there is good amount of food and then take the tablets.

My nurse did say to me that sometimes the body reacts to the metformin but then it goes alright.

I take two pills in the AM but i have to make sure i eat something. if not im like you and very nauseous and even get sick!

My ob suggested taking them at night if the nausea wont wake you it might be better!

i hope you feel better soon!
