Anyone use contact lenses?

I wear glasses, which I hate! :haha: and am thinking about getting contact lenses.
Anyone got them that can tell me what they think of them?

Only thing is, it makes me cringe the idea of sticking them in and taking them out! Erw!! Is that easy to overcome? Not sure if it's normal or just me lol

I also worry about them getting stuck-does that happen? Freaking myself out now ha ha!

Xx

I wear glasses and contacts, usually only bother with contacts if I'm going somewhere nice lol. I love them though, I'd wear them every day but at £30 for 30 pairs, I don't wanna spend that much money all year round!

Getting them in and out can be tricky, I've been wearing them for around 2 years and still have days when they're a pain. I think everyone develops their own way of doing it though, practice definitely helps. I got one stuck once, I just left it for an hour and then tried again. There's not really anywhere for the contact to go so it's not like it's gonna get lost round the back of your eye or anything.

Can't help with the cringe thing as I have no issues with touching my eyes :p

I use to wear contacts, had no problems with the contacts, just the place the supplied them (Specsavers, might be my branch though but they were a bunch of monkeys) Once i get other things settled im going to start wearing them again but from a different place.

Putting them in and out was a bit eeek at first then after 3 years they came so easy.

I love my contact!! I couldnt be without them. Iv never had any problems with them!! They are so easy to put in and take out you will get used to it after a few times!

I love my contacts!

I started wearing glasses when I was 17 and could never get used to having something on my face and in my line of vision. I hated the idea of touching my eye and it wasn't easy to get them out to start with but I over came this because I really enjoy wearing them. Just take your time and you will be a natural at it in no time.

My only horrible issue was when the opticians were prescribing them to me, they make you take them out and put them in 3 times before they let you take them away! I panicked quite a bit because I was under pressure and just wanted to learn in my own time, but I managed and got better afterwards when I was able to practice alone.

I would definitely say it is worth it.

Hubby has just had his eyes retested for new glasses and specsavers are doing a free trial for disposable contacts which hes giving a go.
Might be worth trying the free trial (will probably still have to pay for a eye test) to see if you like them before spending out too much money.
Bewarned spacsavers are idiots though.

Glad im not the only one who thinks that :flower: I have been told that Vision Express is really good

I wore contacts for over 10 yrs before I had laser eye done nearly 2 yrs ago,you def get used to putting them in and taking them out! If you go to boots you can try them out for a few weeks and then go back and buy some. they will try and get you to set up a direct debit but its not worth it if you wont wear them everyday so just say no,you can buy packets when and as you need.

I really don't like my contacts, but I have a scar under my eyelid so they become uncomfortable pretty quickly.
I don't really find getting them in/out a problem. You get used to your own way of doing it really.
I recommend Asda Opticians, they were really good with me they teach you how to get them in and out and send you away with a week's worth of lenses so you can get used to using them before you decide whether or not to get them.

I've had one stuck before. Just leave it for a bit and it'll work its way out.

I'm the same really. I need glasses, but hate them and therefore rarely wear them, which I know, is soo bad. My Dad regularly wears contacts and has done for years but the thought of them really freaks me out. My sister recently got laser eye surgery because she didn't get on well with contacts, they irritated her eyes a lot so I'm thinking of saving up for that.

I wear contacts and have done for about 7 years now. I started with daily ones from vision express, but the cost got prohibitive, so I swapped to fortnightlies. Then, after having Isaac, I started struggling with the fortnightlies drying out quickly. Apparently pregnancy hormones can change the oil levels in your tears. I swapped to boots for monthly lenses, and they're fab. I also get advantage card points and a 10% discount on all boots own brand!

I got used to taking them in and out really quickly. Use a mirror and don't look at your fingers, and it's not too hard :)

I was going to get contacts but was told I would need special custom made ones as I have keratoconus and astigmatism. I would get checked to make sure you can actually get them rather than just ordering them online with your current prescription.

Very true, you need to make sure they fit correctly, as the base curve and diameter can vary. Once you know the correct size, it can be cheaper to order online though.

Getting them in/out just takes practice. Took me a while to get the hang of it, I still remember crying in the opticians cos I couldn't do it :haha: but I can do it without thinking now!

Another point to add is that the lenses are not the same prescription as your glasses are, for obvious reasons, mainly the lens sits direct on your eye as opposed to CMs away!! I worked with many Optometrists and Contact Lens specialists and this is one little fact that I remembered!!

I wore contacts for just over 10 years. I never had problems (and I was a swimmer and lifeguard and also scuba dove with them).

The very first time I put them in it took 2.5 hours on the right side and then like 15 mins on the left side. I was TERRIFIED and would close my eye as I got the contact near my eyeball. But after I got it in, the left eye was a piece of cake. They didn't bug me, didn't sting, nothing....I just saw 100000x better with contacts than I did with glasses (since you get your peripheral vision back).

Go for it, you won't regret it! :D

ETA: I got lasik surgery about 4 years ago so I don't wear contact anymore. LOVE lasik!!!!

I just found this out last week lol. Went for a contact lens check as my glasses prescription has changed and I needed to buy more contacts. Turns out my contacts don't need changing from what they were before :dohh:

I've had contacts for around 7 years and love them!! Only thing is I'm prone to eye infections so constantly having to leave them out until they clear up. I pay £13 per month and get 3 months worth of lenses at a time (monthlys) from Specsavers!

I've had contacts for 12 years and no issues. I get the monthly ones from specsavers which costs £10 a month. I go through phases of wearing glasses mostly so have loads of boxes unopened :haha:
