Evening all.

Beginning of January this year i was put on Seretide 100 Accuhaler to help control suspected Asthma.

Reason being is that i usually suffer with at least 8-9 bad chest infections each year, and when i have them i find it difficult to breathe.

I telephoned the GP surgery this evening to ask if it was safe to continue using this medication...i was put on hold whilst the receptionist asked a doctor.
She came back saying that the doctor said it was fine to continue using it.

However that is conflicting with what information i have found online.
Most information states that if i don't really need the medication that it is best to stop taking it due to risks to the baby.

My GP surgery are not very clued up as when i told my GP i was pregnant this time round he was not aware that i had had a Mc a month before this bfp.

I haven't actually used the Seretide Accuhaler for over a month as i forgot to pick up my prescription...and as i only have suspected asthma i think maybe its best not to take it.

Just wondering if anyone else has been or is in a similar situation??
And what did you do, have you done, or would you recommend??

Cheers Lynz xx

I have asthma too, but I take singulair and flovent. Your medicine may be a no-no if it's a steroid, I think that may be worse. There are plenty of medications that are safe during pregnancy so I would ask your doctor if you should change. No sense being miserable during chest cold season!

Thanks for your reply, the steroid part is what worries me most, with baby's development and incase it makes me give birth to a 13lb baby!! The weight thing really worries me as DS was only a nice 5lb 13oz! :)

Hi, I have this inhaler too. We went to the doctors once we had our BFP and my GP went through all my meds and dosage with me, he said the Seretide was fine. I have some strong painkillers and he said I needed to be careful with those in the 3rd trimester as they can make baby sleepy at and shortly after birth. So I feel pretty confident he did a proper review. I am seeing my asthma nurse on the 2nd of September so I will ask her then and post the reply. Hope this helps xx

Steroids are more likely to give you a smaller baby than a bigger one as it stunts growth. I used inhalers right through my pregnancy and my lo is fine xxx

Helloooo

I am also asthmatic, have been all my life and my doc said that taking my ventolin and seretide is absolutely fine. :)

I have asthma as well and the general idea is that if Mom is breathing well then the baby is breathing well. If you get sick that obviously is much worse for the baby. Also stopping inhaled steriods can cause you get have a lower immunity which can make you sick so be careful going on and off your medicine.

Ladies please don't stop using your inhalers! If you're not getting enough oxygen, then neither is baby. My doc said the benefits of taking the inhalers far outweigh the risks of taking them.

I'm on Seretide 250 and when I first got pregnant I read online and panicked too, but its absolutely fine to carry on taking them, by all means go to your doc as soon as you get your BFP and check all your medication like I did. PLease don't google as the info isn't always accurate.

Thank you hobnob, I was wondering whether to keep taking the exact same inhaler. xx

It's fine hon, they say it's better you get enough oxygen rather than the tiny amount that might be passed to baby. x
