Im not sure if DS is too young for it, Ive only just learnt what this is today when someone suggested it to me on facebook as the boys are starting to wake before 6. Anyone used one, and did it work for you?

We have one, we've had it since dd was about 2 - so about a year now. Dd fully understands the concept, she will even explain it to you but she chooses not to pay any attention to it! She still gets up at 5.30 - 6am :( However, I have heard of them working wonders for some families, so its worth a try x

We have one, I got it just before they turned 2, they are 2 years 4 months now so been using for about 5/6 months. They understand it but choose not to pay attention to it. They still get up about 6am and can clearly see the star is still there but they don't care! I've tried leaving them in their rooms, explaining countless times that its still fight time but they become hysterical so there's not much else I can do. I've seen great reviews for it hence why I bought it, but I dunno, I've just not had much success with it tbh. Maybe they need to be older to get it completely xx

Hmm I can see my DS doing the same. Maybe Ill try blackout blinds frst?!

I have blackout blinds, those have been a little more effective. But when their body clock wants to wake they will just wake, and if mine wake from 5.30am onwards they will not go back to sleep no matter what I do! Hope you have some success with it :) xx

What exactly is it? Am I right in thinking it changes colour or whatever when it is morning as opposed to night?

Yea, you can set times for wake up for naps and nighttime. When it's time to sleep there is a blue light with a star and little stars which 'count down' until the morning. When it's wake up time the image turns to yellow with a big sun xx

Thanks!

I imagine if my LO looked at it he would just ignore it, if he is awake he is awake. Would be handy for when they get to the age where they can't tell the time but are old enough to know to go back to sleep rather than wanting up to play!

It worked well for us. In fact even now, about 18 months on, even if Abby is awake, if you go in to get her up before Mr Sun is up, she will angrily send you away!

I think it is important to read the book as a bedtime story along with it though, so they get the idea what it is all about. And re-inforce it. In the early days, when she woke in the middle of the night, we always told her Mr Sun wasn't up so she had to stay in bed.

For those who are early risers and come out of their rooms, maybe one way to approach it isn't that they have to stay in bed until the sun is up, but that they at least have to stay in their rooms, playing quietly with their toys or something.

This is how we approach it.
Its fine if he wakes up at 6am - some people are early risers - but he has to stay in his room and play with his toys til it is time to get up for breakfast! He has a few mega bloks bricks, a couple of cars and some Thats Not My books (plus his menagerie of cuddly toys!)

We might get one and try it when LO is a bit older :) xxx
